Heya, quick question someone might know, got a friend wanting to do A2 soon and wants to know if a GSR600 can be driven on the A2 license if restricted?

I did the power to weight thing on a calculator and it came up with over the 47bhp limit of 48.1:

(0.26 (bhp per KG limit) x 185Kg (Bike Weight) = 48.1.

So I'm thinking not... but wanted to confirm.

Thanks in advance.

Under the new rules, I don't think a bike can be restricted to under half its original power. That is the only rule I think Thumbs Up

According to:
https://www.visordown.com/reviews/motorcycles/naked/suzuki-gsr600-2006-2011/576.html

GSR 600's produce 89 BHP which is just shy of the upper limit..
89 BHP is roughly 66.4kw which is under the 200% of 35kw

also states the bike is 187kg which will be the dry weight I'm
assuming but that is 66.4/187 = 0.35kw/kg unrestricted.

35/187 = 0.19 (0.187165)kw/kg which is under the 0.2kw/kg limit.

35/185 = still 0.19kw/kg (0.189189)

also if the 187kg is the dry weight... adding oil fuel etc.. will push it to 190-215kg (1 litre of water is equal to 1kg and I assume petrol is similar weight to water)

35/190 = 0.18
35/215 = 0.16

TL:DR

The bike would be legal on a A2 Licence... It's under 0.2kw/kg restricted to 35kw/47bhp and doesn't produce more than 94bhp standard

Thank you, yeah seems to make sense how you've worked it out that it would be legal Smile Thanks

isn't there a big list somewhere of bikes that are legal to restrict or is the list I've seen one that only includes bikes that are, as built, less than 47bhp?

Oil and petrol are quite a bit lighter than water, FWIW, but not so much that it significantly affects your calculations.

The DSA have an online list now.

The GSR600 is not listed on the A2 (restricted) list, but that's twonk. By all the figures I can see, it's just fine to be restricted down to A2. I don't think the lazy gits have updated their list since January.

Actually, a lot of Suzukis squeeze in under the 70kW limit, while the Honda / Yamaha / Kawasaki equivalents fall just foul of it.
