Going to see a few later on this week. Seem remarkably well priced which immediately makes me a bit suspicious.

What do I need to look out for? What's your biggest complaint with the bike? etc etc

Cheers

Got a 2005 almost exactly the same.

How cheap are you talking - they are suprisingly good value for the bike type and visual quality to be honest, what attracted me to mine originally. All depends on condition of course but if you get a low mileage one thats not been ragged about too much should give you very few problems.

I paid 4k almost 3 years ago to get mine at 1800 miles, now at 20k and haven't had anything go wrong with it at all except a flat battery which is a pain in the ass to change on this bike Rolling Eyes

Got a good power range too can happily go around town or blast around the country roads if you wish. Probably want to think about running 120/70s on the front instead of the stock 120/65's as they make it diffcult to get a good deal on tyre packages being a strange size.

They are quite heavy large bikes as well in comparison to other 600s like the R6 so if you're a smaller build you might find it feels quite a handful at first when at low speeds until you get used to it. Would definately recommend them though, i'd say they're quite forgiving in terms of throttle as well unless you go completely overboard of course so if you're new to bigger/powerful bikes they're not quite as jumpy as some other 600s and above.

Only other nuisance is that extra 36cc make it in the next road tax band Laughing

I live in Spain, mate. Tax is between 500cc and 750cc so it won't be any different from my hornet 600.

They range from 2600€ to 3200€ with less than 20K km (about 12k miles).

The truth is I just want to try a sports bike after a couple of nakeds. I normally commute by bicycle so it would rarely be used for commuting. I ride mostly on twisty mountain back roads with fair to good surfaces. Go on the occasional excursion up the costa brava with the girlfriend for a bit of camping but pillion comfort is not a priority(that said, how is it?).

My biggest worry is stopping it from being stolen. It's mental here for the thieving and the sportsbikes are the main targets (along with Honda SH125 scooters). You wouldn't believe it.

Pillion wise .... Its a bit of an ass to be honest, that may again be the size issue though and my having not ridden all that much with pillions someone with more experience might find it okay.

You definately want to chain and ground anchor etc the thing up though they're exactly the sort of thing thieves will go for, i'd highly recommend putting an alarm on it also, and maybe an alarmed disc lock as sound-detereants if anyone trys to have a crack at nicking it.

Itll be fine for the sort of riding you do though.

Price would be hard to comment on too much being european - as far as i'm aware the spanish model is the same as the UK one being only european vs canada/us models on the market.

I've got the pdf files for the manual/service list/parts list etc if you'd like them pm me your email Thumbs Up

It's funny, you're the second guy to tell me they're quite big but when I've seen them parked up on the street they don't look that big.

Ground anchor's not really a possibility. It's a rented parking space.

The typical thieving here is either just a couple of guys throwing it in a van from wherever it's parked in the street or someone getting access to a communal parking garage (which are all underground) and letting the van in.

Between 12 and 20 a day in Barcelona. It's unbelievable. You can actually see them driving about every evening bold as brass. The only thing you can do is to make sure you close the garage door behind you and, when parking on the street, park on the pavement behind parked cars.

If I end up getting one of these I'll PM you for the manuals. Thanks.

Sounds awful Shocked I've seen a video of an R1 getting lifted into a van like it was a paperweight before, since then i've been incredibly paranoid, got the alarm, alarmed disc lock, chain to something at all times etc. Been enough til now touch wood...

Yeah they don't look all that big up close, if you find one to have a sit on though you will probably notice right away they just have a very bulky feeling to them, once you're moving though its fine they're actually quite nimble in the corners suprisingly.
