My 125 hits the limiter in 5th every single day, its on stock gearing so I've ordered a +1 tooth front sprocket.

Would this be too drastic for a 125 that uses the motorway all day? It hit the limiter 2 up on the way back from the SE night ride and going by GPS, its top speed at the limiter is 83.7mph Laughing which is good going.

I just fancy not having to roll off the throttle, if its not pinned open the wind takes it toll and if its pinned it hits the limiter and obviously...not fun for the engine Laughing

It will make your acceleration slower, if you can deal with that.

The gear ratios are matched to engine torque curve.

They are generally designed to provide a generally usable range.

What you propose doing will only upset the Space Time Continuum so I err on caution to advise further.

Very Happy

Do the maffs. Work out your rear wheel speed now at x rpm and extrapolate the difference with +1 tooth.

This tells me my top speed is 72mph on the current gearing. Which according to the GPS is about 10mph out. I'll be running 2 GPS trackers tonight and will average all 3 runs to confirm actual speed.

I went 1 (7%) and then 2 (14%) up on the front on my weedy 11bhp Hounaio. It made not a jot of difference to the top speed, but did bring the revs down so that it wasn't screaming its nuts off everywhere. Definitely worth sucking and seeing.

Suck it and see, if it makes it gutless you can always compromise with 1 or two teeth on the rear.

Another 'try it and see' - I upgeared my 690 by 20% or so at one point.
Lost a teeny bit of top speed maybe, but got more relaxed cruising at speed. Just unfortunate I couldn't easiler alter the internal gearing so I didn't lose the lowish first gear for dirt stuff.

Gearing commander always seems to get the red line wrong, make sure it's set correctly!

I did my XT600 so it would cruise on the motorway in top.

Before I did it I would either have to drop a gear and keep it screaming or have it struggle in top.

According to some genius on youtube I need to sort out the gearing on my pan european Rolling Eyes

I'll wait for the sprocket and do some comparison runs, I'll use the current chain and just buy a new one when I get back from Spain... it seems to have red areas, not rusty, red from being what looks to be overheated? Oh well Laughing

I'd try it and see how it goes. You do a fair bit of pinned to the stop motorway work on your Honda, so it could benefit your M'way cruising and stop you banging into the limiter unless your going down a very steep hill, in the prone position on a windy day.

if it feels sluggish when you've up geared it, it's just an excuse to tune it for some more power to compensate! Laughing

Is this on the vara?

Thought you persuaded me not to fit a +1 tooth sprocket to mine...
