And if the great and the good of the Kent countryside catch you going over their limit they’ll take down your reg number, pass your details on to police and persistent offenders could end up getting fixed penalties.

The most likely outcome is that you’ll get a sternly-worded letter, though.

Now the filth can't even be bothered to do it them selves. Rolling Eyes

Damn...

I seen a similar thing on the tele a while ago. Old women that complained to the council that much they ended up with a speed gun.

I thought it were all for the camera's though. Can't believe they are actually doing it though.

Someone made a good point on the wright stuff on channel 5 today.

If a motorist speeds he will soon lose his/her licence with the amount of camera's but if they never use indicators they will probably never get caught.

How many people have been contemplating over taking when someone moves into the middle of the lane and breaks, then just before they turn the indicator will go on. Or worse non is ever used?

Some people just need to get a life don't they? I know some people round where I used to live that would relish the chance to play with speed guns - the bloke who reported me to the police for parking my Fiat 126 opposite his house for example. (Not because it was an eye-sore by the way, but because he was a bad driver and reckoned I prevented him from getting out of his drive). Anyway, going off topic there, although I agree that speeding should be controlled, this is obviously something introduced for the retired and bored members of the public who are just going to catch people going 35 in a 30.

Presumably they're only going to be doing it in the villages and not on stretches of NSL. If it's just in 30s through villages then I don't really have a problem with it as you should respect their speed limits anyway. However if they start getting in their cars and setting up vigilante speed traps on NSL roads then that is bad.

How can it be bad if it encourages people to pay attention to the speed limit?

I agree, the penalties also so far sound ok, ie a warning letter rather than a fine runs well with me Smile.

Because a lot of speed limits in now way represent the dangers. Blind observation off speed limits also means that people don't think what the road and conditions are like, just what the little circle on the side of the road says.

Hi

The Laser guns are there to provide confirmation of a police officers opinion of your speed. As such they have no legal standing when used by someone other than a police officer (and that includes the camera vans operated by anyone other than a police officer).

Also from a mailing list I am on one person was saying they stopped to speak to some OAPs who were playing with one of the speed guns in a village local to him. He didn't mention to them that they were writing down the wrong registration plates most of the time.

All the best

Keith

This is a terrible idea these are people that quite possibly have an axe to grind. Who is training them, checking the equipment and supervising them ?

I do not think that road traffic control should be handed over to volunteers, I thought the police were employed to uphold the law! so if it needs doing they should do it.

I see it as encouragement for the establishment to make speed the only issue of road safety and ignore vehicles with missing lights, bald tyres and stuff as well as the shocking driving of some. In sheffield it seams a right turn from a left (left turn only) lane at a T junction is fine and I am not sure why they bother with lane on the roundabouts, it would appear no-one knows what there for. :x

Bad riding/driving (not indicating etc) is much worse than speeding IMHO.

In Shrewsbury last week I saw a huge sign which said something like 'you speed' and displays your speed if over the limit. The amount of drivers that slowed down was unbelievable!

Shame is a powerful thing Laughing

We have them all the time in Ringmer (East Sussex) apart from the fact they have'nt got a clue how to use the equipment correctly, they also manage to break the same laws they seem hell bent on trying to enforce. I dont have a problem with keeping to a 30 limit or what they are trying to do but what really made me mad was watching them last sunday. They ignored about 20 or 30 cars some of which were quite obviously doing more than 30mph but bugger me they were quick on the draw when a group of motorcycles appeared on the horizon! It seems ok to speed here so long as it's not on two wheel's Evil or Very Mad

Not going into detail, but it's related to this thread. Sorry no more comments.

Anyway, I still think it's a decent idea. Maybe if they were targetting bikes but ignoring cars, some bikers could stop and chat to them, show that they're not evil, and encourage them to target cars too.

Just go past the cunts at 100mph, If they even manage to get the first letter of your number plate correct they deserve a medal.

Picture attached is what they would see---

A 'plain' with radar locked onto to it won't do very much, but an aeroplane might. Wink Laughing

Yup. If its a military one probably launch countermeasures and jamming (frying the gun) and possibly even automatically fire an anti-rader missile! Shocked

Hi

In the UK there are all sorts of rules about how laser speed guns can be used. Fairly certain that they cannot be used from a moving vehicle, or indeed through the glass of a vehicle.

They measure closing speed so unless the gun knows the exact speed of their vehicle then it cannot give an accurate reading.

However this is not true in all countries. I know they allow readings from moving vehicles in Australia for example (but then they have a major problem there as it has just been discovered that in Victoria they carried on issuing tickets from speed cameras which they knew had failed their checks on accuracy).

All the best

Keith

What is the world coming to?!

Just because the old women/men have nothing better to do...

Once the money recieved from fines is spent on filling in potholes and generally raising awareness of hazards on the roads, I might have some faith in the cameras...

One good turn deserves another. That's what I always say.

I'd catch up with one of these people in my car and video them making every mistake they did and report them for dangerous/incompetant driving.

Probably wouldn't have the time in all honesty. But it's a nice thought.
