Hi there, I'm about to replace the rear tyre on my Yamaha YBR 125, and I need some advice on what to get.

I could get a Pirelli or Continental, but I've heard good things about Michelin, so that will probably be what I go for. The Pilot Sporty's I've read a lot of good reviews about, but I've been led to believe the new Street type with its radial design has a nicer cornering.

Could anyone advise me either way - or just give me any experience or reviews? Thanks!

I've gone Pirelli for as long as I can remember now, never let me down yet on all my bigger bikes. But if I was to change (and after watching pirellis exploding all over silverstone the other day I might) it would probably be to a soft compound Mich.

For my 125cc, due to the lower annual mileage (compared to my 650cc), I go for an even softer compound still, and spend every minute riding trying to keep it up to temperature Twisted Evil.
I consider brands and tread patterns a bit less relevant on a 125cc.

However. If your not replacing your front. I'd go for the same/similar compound on the back as you have up front to keep things balanced and a bit more predictable.

Mostly for getting around, as I'm getting a summer job, but it's also for pleasure.

since owning my ybr 125 new in may 2012 ive used pilot sporty's, metzeler me22 and a continental cm1.

the pilot sportys definately handle the best out of the three, never had one let go on me, but dont seem to last as long as the others with the mileage i do.

can pick a rear one up off ebay for £47 delivered, or a set for £70 delivered, chuck the front in the shed until its needed and £5 fitting to loose wheel, what i do Thumbs Up

I figure I'll go for the Pilot Sporty as it has a good reputation and shouldn't differ much in compound to the front. The Pilot Street I think is a completely different type of tyre, so I'd probably have to do the fronts for consistency - thanks guys!

And Tom, I can get the Sporty's for ~£56 incl. shipping, but thanks nonetheless!

Edit: Tom, I just realised that the link you sent me is for a pair - hence as I've not seen a deal that good anywhere, I'm going for the pair, many thanks.

I've had Michelin Pilot Street fitted on my YBR just last month and they are really good. They are perfect for my commute.

However, I wasn't prepared for the difference in the feel of the bike after riding for 2 years on the original stock tires. Please, be prepared for the difference in handling and take it easy for 100 miles.

I would recommend the Street without hesitation. Good luck!
