Hi all,

My oil cooler started leaking from the joint of the hose today, took it apart now after getting in, had to chance it bringin it home with it still leaking slightly (only 5 min commute).

Took it apart hoping it was just the o rings perished but they are fine....do I need a new cooler?

Obviously I do need a new one, poo head of a previous owner over tightened it and it decides to leak now!

I'd be tempted to try cleaning it with alcohol, Dremmeling a V along the crack, filling it with chemical metal and sanding it back flat. It'd probably hold alright then.

I'd still get a new one but it'd make a handy spare even if you swapped it out.

600 Bandits are notorious for cracking at the flange you can't usually do a decent repair and replacement is the only real option. Don't know why it happens, the 1200 is of similar construction but you only seem to get the problem on the 600s

Maybe even a wee crush washer in there too for a couple more years use

Won't help a bit - the crack goes though the sidewall of the hole.

Personally I think this is probably due to the metal oil pipes vibrating.

I think the problem with mine is that when i took it apart and put it back together, the flange wasnt sitting flush for the connecting pipes and cooler.

It was at an angle, which was then only flush once screwed together. So quite a bit of stress for such a period of time has caused it i imagine.

I doubt that very much. Two flat mating faces will pull up flat no matter where you start from.
