the pipe from the carb is the float chamber overflow . it can leak if the float is punctered or set wrong , or knacke float valve . This pipe is the overflow used for flushing the carb bowl .
The other pipe from the engine is the engine breather pipe . It should go from the case , down the back and under the centrestand , it gets rid of engine fumes.
When it comes to timing you should GET THE SPEC and the 'T' mark should be measured when one cyclinder's valves are completly CLOSED ....At Top Dead Centre or TDC. You may be setting in on the wrong cyclinder or ' cycle'.
If its a twin carb model just take it to basic settings , as fuelling can affect timing , badly set points affect fuelling etc.........
lovely bike when set up . edit... its an RS! Points are very trial and error , a timing light is great enabling you to bracket the points gap and advance / retard a lot more accuratly. You may be able to convert to electronic ignition with a chinese loom and genny . ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. HI Thanks for the info.
I have final;ly got it running...by going against all the info found regarding ignition timing.Let me explain....pleae bare with me
I have set the engine timing so the piston is at tdc,the cam has the lobes pointing down meaning the valves are closed.Set the points gap from the highest point, set the points plate so the points are just opening. Now here is the issue, the engine seems to be on the induction stroke,so if i turn it 360 degree's it is at the same tdc position with the cam lobes down and piston at tdc ie compression stroke,BUT the breaker plate is 180deg out??????if i set the plate upside down the bike starts on the first kick, gets bloody hot very quick but this could be because the a/f ratio is to lean??
so in short when the engine is on the compression stroke the breaker plate seems to be 180deg out,now this bike in the past has been messed with by someone without a single clue,so what am i missing? are the books wrong? or is there someting else?
ps should it get that hot sooooo quickly?
help please |

I was wondering if it should be CDI , same as Xl125 , not points .
The plate is designed to be adjusted slightly , Its common to set the timing only to find the setting has changed when you tighten up the plate and points screws .Get a timing light . ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs.
