Attempting to give this nightmare on two wheels running,I seem to be kicking it over with nothing but a sore foot to show for it. Seems to kick every so often but need to check a few things.

First and fore most, there are two obvious pipe attachments, the obvious fuel inlet on the top and there is one more of a smaller bore to the left as you look down on the bike. Appears to have a hole facing down although it is a brass pipe..fuel does come out of this when carb is tipped upside down.

Second, when timing the engine up,I presume tdc for the cam is with the lobes facing down giving the most valve to rocker lash.

Third and final is there appears to be a vent from the rear of my engine/gearbox case that has a perished pipe can I just put a pipe to this and let it vent to atmosphere?

Thanks[/i]

HI Thanks for the info.

I have final;ly got it running...by going against all the info found regarding ignition timing.Let me explain....pleae bare with me

I have set the engine timing so the piston is at tdc,the cam has the lobes pointing down meaning the valves are closed.Set the points gap from the highest point, set the points plate so the points are just opening. Now here is the issue, the engine seems to be on the induction stroke,so if i turn it 360 degree's it is at the same tdc position with the cam lobes down and piston at tdc ie compression stroke,BUT the breaker plate is 180deg out??????if i set the plate upside down the bike starts on the first kick, gets bloody hot very quick but this could be because the a/f ratio is to lean??

so in short when the engine is on the compression stroke the breaker plate seems to be 180deg out,now this bike in the past has been messed with by someone without a single clue,so what am i missing? are the books wrong? or is there someting else?

ps should it get that hot sooooo quickly?

help please Very Happy
