I am, and have been for many years now, a hardcore Yamaha fan.
My last 2 playtime bikes have been R1's and I still have one atm. Carbed models of course. Thumbs Up

Today an almost unbelievable deal on a 2010 GSXR came along via a mate . . and to be honest I am tempted, if only as it such a blinding deal.

So, I'm looking for any pros or cons / owner reviews please.

Should I cross to the dark side from the righteous light ?

Oh yeah . . its (light) blue and white . . Sick Laughing

Mcn give it a flat 4 out of 5 across 5 categories in their review here. Owners ratings are even better. I'd say go for it if the deal is that good Thumbs Up

If its that good a deal then go for it, and if it turns out not to be for you, sell it on and make a few quid on it.

Win/win really.

Unless it's cheaper than a K5 I wouldn't, Suzuki have still to better the K5 1000, and is still the best GSXR1000 made.

Should be a decent step up from a carbed R1 - they're cheap partly because the S1000RR of the same year is a decent step up from the GSXR Smile.

What made the K5 so jizztastic over a K4?

The usual stuff - lighter and more power.

The K7 got more weight and lost a bit of mid-range, which is why the K5/K6 was considered the epitome of the GSXR1000/litre class sports bike of the time generally.

It was this model that BMW apparently bought a couple of when designing the S1000RR.

Hey Banger.

I can't speak for the 2010 model, but I have a '57 plate K8 and I love it dearly, it's the only litre sports bike I've ridden that does everything I want it to do very, very well. With an aftermarket exhaust they sound fantastic as well.

Firstly, it's great for commuting or stuff like that, it's narrow enough to filter like crazy, can fit through tiny gaps but also big enough to protect you from the wind. It rides very well at any speed, helped by the electronic steering damper. Plus, being FI and not carbed, no choke to worry about and the fuelling is always stellar.

Secondly, and most importantly to me, it's just so easy to ride! If you adjust the pegs to the lower setting it's very comfy, even with my legs, and I'm 5'10" tall. If you are riding around slowly, it can do that with ease, but if you want to go silly fast and hoon it, the bike will do that even better and will just urge you along. On top of all this you can be very lazy with it if you want, with mine I can put it in third gear and just never touch the gearbox, like a moped with a clutch at normal speeds, like commuting through town.

So, yeah, I would recommend a GSX-R1000, but I would suggest riding a few first. I have ridden an L0 model and really didn't like it compared to mine, not to mention it's terrible aesthetically IMO, so if I were you I'd just give the bike a ride and see if you enjoy it, if you do and it's a really good deal then it's worth going for, just give it a real good look over and check it thoroughly before parting with your cash.

Hope that helps man. Thumbs Up.
