 |
|
I've been pondering this for quite some time and still havnt come to a decision. In January of next year providing I don't make any major cock ups a whole new world of bikes open up to me, il have a years ncb behind me and alot more bigger bikes will be insurable, but can I fuck decide what il want.
Some background,
I'm currently hooning around as best I can on a sv650s that will end up being my mrs bike when she passes her test, I'm very comfy on this bike and u really have to rev the tits off if to get it to respond.
I've had other bikes, Z750, Speed 4 of which I've enjoyed but I can't decide which direction to go in next..
I've always had a thing for the Daytona 675. In my eyes it's simply a gorgeous looking bike and I'm a big fan of triumph build quality since my speed 4 days, BUT I've not even ridden one...
I can't imagine I won't enjoy it but I'm wondering if it will be the right bike for me, I'm not the fastest all out balls rider to be quite honest, I had a big off approx a year ago and was lucky to walk away un harmed (the bike wasn't so fortunate). I wouldn't say the accident has destroyed my confidence but it has certainly slowed me down a fair bit and I often wonder wether and out and out sportsbikes would be for me. But then on the other hand I love em, I love the GP, the looks the speed etc!!
If its a daytona 675 it's gonna set me back 4k minimum, which is another begging question, is this just a little too much for a weekend toy?! For that sorta money u can get some great bikes. But u can also get a whole load of bike for a grand less.
Some others I've been tempted buy;
*suzuki sv1000 (questionable suzuki build quality)
*suzuki gsxr750 (common?, but maybe that's a good thing?)
* older fireblade (everyone seems to go this way?)
I need some more ideas, more importantly I think I need to get out there and test a few bikes before January comes?! |

I would say 675s by far are the nicest of the 600 [ish] range sports bikes, when i went for my zx6 a few years back i really couldnt make my mind up, tryed gsxr, r6, zx6, cbr and 675.
I would of taken the 675 but as is probably still the case its a fair bit more - but it is worth the money if you have it. I settled on the ZX6 as second best and am no where near disappointed but would still go for the 675 in heinsight with budget available, they're just vastly more nimble and confidence inspiring than all the others especially on road at least.
Personally i'd say theyre argueably best in the looks department too, a few mates don't like them as they're quite 'small' compared to the others to look at, but look fine to me
If you're looking to spend your max bike budget though yes definately do test rides as i did you will find theres a big difference between at least a few of the bikes as far as you feel it most likely.
I absolutely hated the R6, yet expected it would feel one of the coolest to ride |

They are definitely confidence inspiring. Great front end, handles as sharp as an R6 without the engine that you have to rev to 10k to get anywhere. It's not quite as well built as a CBR or R6 but easier to work on than an R6, it's probably on a par or better than the Kwak and ahead of the Gixxer. The engine is perfect on the road and on track you won't lose out too much if you pick the wrong gear because its got buckets of torque. They sound lovely too.
This recommendation comes with a couple of caveats though. The riding position is marmite, it's a bit like sitting on a tall fence. Test rides are essential. The exup valve on the exhaust WILL fail but it does nothing except make it quieter so remove it. The rear shocks on 06-08s are not as good as the front end. They are progressively wound so set up is fiddly and the rebound doesn't do much so be prepared to upgrade at some point; I got a secondhand Nitron Race for £350 on eBay. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600
