This was delivered yesterday.

Not the greatest start, back tyre was flat so had to put a new tube in it.
Today i start it and head off to fill up the tank, it wouldn't go over 40mph and was popping and dying. I thought a fresh tank of fuel might do it good after being stood a while.
After fill up it died at the light in town and while having a poke around I realised the choke has 3 positions and was still partially on Embarassed

After this I went for a ride round a few lanes right near home and then over to Salisbury plain, managed to clock up over 70 miles in my few hours out, probably 25-30 of them off road.

A few more piccies, including some of the result of me binning it after it all went tits in a rutted track.

Great fun that, just stripping back my gas gas 250 and putting new plastics on it, I love how simple they are and how robust seen as they take an absolute hammering!!

Excellent bike choice!! When on Salisbury Plain, you need to head towards Tidworth. The army have a tank range there which is great as long as the army aren't playing there. Mr. Green

The artillery ranges are useful for many mountain bike routes, the artillery ranges are large areas that dog walkers don't seem to use. But for dirt bikes the tank range is best.

Thats the one, ok to cruise at 60-65 but 70mph is definitely not so great.

I need to strip the carb as it's being a bit shit at times but seems like it'll be fine for the trip.

Those road signs are priceless Laughing

Are all the areas you biked in for those pics officially legal to bike on by the way, i'm up in bristol and have always been wanting to get a bike for off roading but was led to believe virtually every where near here isn't technically legal besides the odd country lane that gets tractors hammering up and down it every 5 minutes Neutral so never really bothered yet

Yes, all those routes are legal byways, Salisbury plain is covered in them.

There are many byways all over the country but many countryside knobbers have them turned into restricted byways since a 5 ton tractor causes so much less damage than a 150kg motorbike.

If it's got a byway sign then it's just an unsurfaced road usually

Ah thats useful to know cheers, salisburys not all that far a field away for the odd weekend ride then.

Don't suppose theres any good websites or books you know of that have listings of good locations for off-roading. I have a few eastern european friends i envy greatly as they have pretty much free-roam of vast parts of their countries to go biking in how and when they please Mad

Be tempting to spice up the ride going in mid range practice at salisbury Laughing dodging holes and artillery shells on a sunday afternoon

You need an OS Landranger map, they have the byways on them. Or you can look at online OS maps like https://maps.the-hug.net

If they have flags up it is a no go area and then you are on MOD property without permission, you don't want to be doing that.

Apart from the obvious getting blown up or shot issue and they do blow up lots of stuff, I can hear them dropping bombs from my house and i'm 10 miles away.

Christ Shocked Thought it was just the local cadets with a few pop-rifles bar the odd artillery training Laughing

Must get some good sleep Rolling Eyes

How often is the flag up would you say or hard to say the amount you go close to the area

The flags don't mean much. If the army are actually doing anything then they have people all around the edges of whatever area they're blowing up. If you get into the middle of some army exercise then the people round the edges get shouted at lots for not stopping you. Laughing

It's daytime usually and when out in the garden you hear the distant thud of a decent explosion.

When crossing the plain at night can be interesting when they have the (made up name) nightsun flares hanging from parachutes drifting down while lighting up huge areas.
The most noisy things around here is the Apaches as they train overhead and around the area as I think if they fuck it up there isn't a lot to hit out here.

This is another one of those WTF ebay bikes.

Comes with full mot the listing said. Listing ended on a weekend, i contacted and said courier would collect and take the cash with him and would be in touch.

Courier gets back in contact with me, bike isn't mot'd yet so he wouldn't be able to collect it the following week but the seller was going away for a week on Monday Shocked

Arranged instead to transfer cash to his account and courier collected it on the tues after seller left keys somewhere.

It gets to me thurs with a flat back tyre.
I'm wondering how a bike with a flat tyre got an mot on it but it has done 5 miles since ebay photos so maybe it's gone down since.

Turns out the inside of the wheel is so rusty it has fucked the tube, duct tape bodge later and it's sorted.
The mot has a couple of advisories, worn pivots on levers and no indicators fitted.
The play in the levers is minimal but the brake lever is obviously bent and the warped disc is obvious on applying the brake but neither of these are mentioned Confused

Today i've rewired the rear lights to get them working properly, stripped carb so it will start better and actually tickover, adjust tappets, grease everything, fit seat and tank properly.

Lever and mirrors ordered, on the look out for a wheel. I'm not hugely upset as I can do the jobs myself and it was cheap but not THAT cheap, some people would have been looking at a massive bill to sort the things out to get it right.

If buying a bike, get someone who knows what they are up to to go take a look at it, it might not be a lot but you could save yourself a £500 bill by taking a 100 mile drive to check out your new potential ride.

Had similar problems with a suzuki sb200 i got last year to do up over winter.

Was from a fairly reputable dealer in cornwall that specialises in old bikes, but it had only just come to them and i took a chance on it and just paid inc delivery over the phone going by pics.

Unfortunantely the tank was rusted like the titanic, and took a sh-t load of work to get it to a useable standard again. Then was the engine paint - which from looking quite well done, in real life turned out to of been someone with a brush and what looks like a tin of radiator paint - which has done all the screws a lot of good Rolling Eyes

All up and running now though, a few troubles later Laughing lesson learned
