So I was chatting to an old local down the pub last night, he said he had a pushbike with a 80cc engine in it, it don't run and its really tatty. I offered him a pint for it for a laugh. And he said yeah.
I'm going round to pick it up later. Don't have a clue what it looks like.
Dose anyone no what it will be worth once up and running?
Cheers

One of my mates built one of them for a laugh, the 80cc kit was about £150 new plus the cost of the £60 bike he bolted it to.

Assuming the bike it's attached to is decent i'd say you could get £150 - £200 ish for it if you get it shiney and it's bolted to a desireable bike.

It's not something like an NSU Quickly designed and built with the engine

depending what it is, could be worth a fair bit.

So after going to pick this up and bringing it home.
I've cleaned all the carb ect.
And it runs!!
You have to pedal normally, get up to speed and engage the engine via a lever on the handle bars, this then bumps the engine and off you go.
Only problem is i brought new front pads and they have worn out in the space of 2 day. Dose anyone know of a hard wearing pads?

Maybe invest in the disc brakes that fashionable modern bicycles have?

larger rotor size on the front should give better braking without wearing through the pads as quickly

you'll need an adaptor for the caliper but they shouldn't be too hard to get hold of.

Ive ruined many bicycles with these motors.
The engine lasts 1.5 bicycles, the carb tends to leak, spokes tend to break, wheel rims come unjoined.

However, i will get 65-70 kilometres per hour. The engine will eat a gallon of fuel before the defective nikasil leaves via the exhaust and fun will be had.
They are fun to tinker with, but by the time you get it running well, and the motor mounts to stop breaking, something else will go.

I expected too much from my ones i think, but as i paid real money for mine and you paid a beer have some karma.

When I got it, it was leaking from the carb manifold. I've replaced all the gaskets ect. The mounts are not the best, but I'm thinking of welding a few support beams in.

Just a note that without various extra kit, registration, mot, insurance and tax this is totally illegal to use on the road/in public places.

Could get rather nastily done, so be careful where you ride it!

I no it's illegal to ride on public roads ect. But what if I'm not using the engine? Just pedalling like a normal push bike?

Still illegal I'm afraid.
Just as its actually illegal to push a motorcycle without all the road legal stuff... think you may be supposed to wear a helmet when pushing too.

Oh please! Don't wind the OP up further with untruthful stuff. The truth is bad enough Wink
See Velosolex for the original (I think? Confused) take on the idea.

Originals sadly now quite valuable, partly due to the mentioned number plate you get with it!
