so, I had a leaking rad,

I've swapped it out with a rad from an 02 hornet, same fit but slightly smaller, been informed it should be fine.

Anyway, riding to town today and i'm leaving a nice long line of wet, stop and the bike is absolutely pissing coolant from the overflow.

any ideas on the cause? there's no coolant in the oil (looks as fresh as when it went in a month or so ago, no oil in the coolant (whats left of it)

ran the bike with the rad cap off and doesn't look to be any bubbles of exhause in there. exhaust isn't smokey at all.

regardless of this could it still be the head gasket? only other thing I can think of is the expansion tank hose on the rad fits a lot looser than on the original, on the original it was fine sitting firm on there with no clips or anything, on this one it leaks out of the hose, wrapped a few cable ties round it and it doesn't leak but wondering if air might be getting drawn in causing it to boil the coolant?

Would that make sense? waiting for it to cool down so can refil and go to b&q and look for a clip small enough

just a thought, could it be radweld blocking something? just noticed this time that there was a lump of something brown and rubbery, too rubbery to be oil, sat just under the cap

Did you get a rad cap with the new radiator? if not does the old cap have the correct depth to seal?

New cap came with the rad. Its definable sealing fine. However noticed on this warm up after its pissed the coolant there was a vacuum in the rad as the cap needed a tug to get off

Air lock, can cause lack of flow and overheating like that.

With my bike I had to keep the engine revving at several different settings for so many seconds to make sure all the air was out.

What would cause that then? Ive already emptied and refilled the coolant a few times but no difference. It seems fine until ot hits the temp where the fan comes on then just boils over

Just ran it with rad cap back on but overflow cap off and there's an air bubbles every couple of seconds. So theres a leak somewhere but there were no bubbles in the rad. Reckon ill try a proper clip on that little hose. Maybe its drawing air in

check to make there are no blead niple in the system. i work on a gilera runner a couple times and it had a blead niple on the top of the therma-stat housing, it had to be left open until the bike was warmed.

also most rad caps have a vent posisiton. i have to run the bike up and get it warm with the cap in the posistion to get all the air out on the b4.

have a lok in thwe haynes manual

Theres no bleed nipple and ive changed coolant before on it with no issue. This has only started boiling out the overflow since the change of rad

when you do a coolant change there is always some coolant left in the system. internal structure of rads are quite intracut. i expect that if you took your old rad and moved it around you could get some more coolent out of it.

besides i was giving you some idea how to solve your problem. if you have tryed them and they havent worked then fair enough. the rad change on the b4 took more bleading than just a coolant change, heck it more than an engine change
