Just had the police round, saying that my dads bike has been seen racing up and down the a16 at over 100mph.

They barged thier way past me, and tried to get into the garage. Which is locked from the inside. After arguing with them, about needing a warrent. And threatened with being arrested. I let them look at the bike.
It is in the garage, stone cold. Not been run since my dad last took it out. They then checked the other bikes and found a number plate hidden under the bench, from my mates bike. Which is sat at the front of the garage.
All my bikes are legal, and insured if being ridden.
When they left I was told my Hyosung and my dads Laverda might be taken as 'evidence' how do i tell my dad that?

Can the police do this to me?
Can they come and take bikes without a good excuse?
Can they even barge into my house?

If they have a reasonable belief that a vehicle has been used without license or insurance, and you are unable to produce evidence of license or insurance, then they can use reasonable force to enter a garage (but not a house) and seize it, for up to 24 hours after the offence was alleged. RTA 1988 section 165A

Then there's PACE 1984 S19 General Powers of Seizure, which lets them seize anything that might be evidence of any crime, once they're lawfully on any premises. Of course, their story will be that you invited them in.

In neither case can they lawfully enter your house without a warrant (unless to prevent a breach of the peace or to arrest on some other grounds), so simply do not open the door and start filming them from a window.

Then post the video here. Except I'm not sure if their images show up on film. I may be thinking of vampires, but much the same rules apply, and it's about as likely to have happened either way.

OK, I may be nieve or stupid or something else but this seems like a perfectly legit question to me.

Ive checked the links that someone else posted and they all see like perfectly legit questions.

Whats wrong with asking if the police have the power to barge in? Whats wrong with asking the price of a pint in Italy?

Am I missing something or is it a case of the kids not allowing sensible questions anymore, because Ill be fair, the last few days Ive had on this forum Im quite happy to leave. Its not that I hate this forum, its just that I would like to come on and be mature and ask normal questions.

Anyway, Im starting to waffle and taking it off on a tagent

Is the problem with the question, as in we are not allowed to ask a question like this? Or is the problem with the asker?
