Why don't the makers of bikes consider simple things like changing a bulb in the dark in nasty weather?

Took me 10 minutes with a socket set and screwdriver to change a simple tail light. And that was in sunshine in my back garden.

My CBF600 had by far the easiest bulb change. No tools required just four fingers and a thumb. Done and dusted in around 3 minutes.

Just wondered how everyone else gets on?

Cheers

My ZX6 front ones are as easy if not even easier than the car, litearlly screw-out plastic cups.

Rear lights a bit of a cunt but not too bad once you've got the cumbersome fairing aside Rolling Eyes

Have any luck sorting your alarm by the way mate Question

You have to remove the front cone on the er to change the headlight bulb. I also have a screen that needs removing too.

So you need a socket set.

The Z is easy no tools for the headlight and the rear is LED strips so should past forever.

Headlights on the GS are readily accessible. The bulbs are probably hand crafted by blind Tibetan nuns though. If the rear LED cluster goes, it's doubtless cheaper to buy a new bike.

The 2006-2008 ER6f does not need tools or anything removing to change either headlight bulb. The rubber cups can be peeled back, the wires unplugged, and the bulb mount removed by hand, all from reaching up from the front of the machine.

The SH300 needs splitting the handlebar fairing to change the headlight, and that's a tricky job, very easy to mark the plastic with screwdrivers used as levers, or snap one of the tabs. I've gotten the technique down now as it's my second SH300, but the insurance repairers who dealt with the bike after my last smidsy snapped a couple of tabs.

I'm not looking forward to doing it on the ZZR... it looks like you've got to strip the entire fucking bike down in the Haynes Sad

How many BCF forum members does it take to change a light bulb?

Fucking loads. One to actually change it, while the rest aggressively trash the member's parentage, heterosexuality, bike riding abilities, choice of bike, role in Zionist conspiracies, conceptual grasp of temporality, etc. etc.

hornet is easy enough, a couple of screws on the headlight casing for the front and couple of screws on the cover on the rear too.

cbr1100xx Blackbird what a twat to change a bulb,

take off the screen to start with , then take off the clocks and then you can just about get a hand to the bulb holder but you have to take the wet shield off first . One bulb sits above the other and the lower one is a harder reach than the top . No idea about the back bulb because I haven't had to tackle that yet but not optimistic that its going to be any easier .

I'm not sure I've owned a bike yet where you can't access the headlight bulb by coming up from underneath rather than disassembling half of of the bike from the top.

My ZZR 600 is a hassle when changing the headlight bulb as similarly the clock surrounds, screen and tank need to be lifted.

There is an access panel underneath the lightbulb but is more suited to people with very small hands.

It's not such a big issue to change the bulbs IMO, although i wouldn't fancy doing it at the side of an unlit motorway at night.

The VTR's fiddly but nothing in comparison to the bulbs in my old Volvo S40.

I got nabbed on the way home by a copper some years ago who told me a bulb was out. It was dark and the only place open was the dreaded halfrauds. I picked up the cheapest I could find and went to pay.

That day they were offering a free bulb fitting service if I bought some de-icer so I did. I paid up and then they asked me what my car was..... 'Sorry sir, we don't fit bulbs in S40s'. WHAAAA??!!! To be fair, it's a right bastard of a job and I cut my hand up something rotten. In the end I got my missus to do it - just needs girly hands!

I dunno what's wrong with modern manufacturers (bike and car) but they really do take the piss when planning on how to access 'consumables'.

The S40/V40 are fiddly but not too bad. Just the usual amount of cursing and prodding around in the dark (some may liken that to foreplay).

Bit like the ST1100. That's fiddly as well done from underneath the forks.

I understand on the newer Volvo models you have to actually remove the headlamp unit itself to replace the bulb.

If you had to pay someone to change a rear bulb on a Vity it would be cheaper to buy a new bike.

no it is the Rover 75, we gave up trying to change the front bulb, even girly hands wouldn't work. We got the bulb in but couldn't get the holder to slot into place Twisted Evil

Mk1 fazer 600 is so easy to change the bulbs, absolutely no tools required for front or rear Smile not sure about the Deauville, I haven't changed a bulb yet Smile
