Hi

Probably one for Marmalade.

Planning on doing the above in a day. It's about 550, so might be a long day, but do-able.

Am I best off following the French autoroutes and paying the £30 odd fees, or is there another route through Belguim / Lux that would be worth taking instead?

Not fussed about scenery or roads as they get better once I'm down there. Got an F1 booked in Thonon Les Bains for the Saturday night, am able to leave Calais (Coquelles) early that morning.

I have gone a few times and would recommend this route, no tolls and quite decent roads other than a few large holes in Belgium.

I did Hook Van Holland > Rotterdam > Amsterdam > Nurburgring one day, then Nurburgring > Bern the next.

The first day I spent a good amount of time walking around both Rotterdam and Amsterdam, the second a load of time at the Nurburgring. So could have easily done it in one day with some breaks etc,

I'm not too worried about the overall distance - It's just the route. What Marmalade just linked to may well be more interesting, but it adds on a fair whack of miles to an already long day. I did, last year, do 850 in a day on my hornet but it wasn't the most enjoyable experience! This time I'll have clip-ons and a pillion to contend with.

Still, a beer will taste good at the other end!

You could do this way. https://goo.gl/maps/nMdrh
It's ony an extra 15 miles or so but removes most of the French tolls.

I hate paying tolls and generally avoid doing so. I've done This route in 24hrs and only had tolls on the Brenner pass and down through Italy plus the Austrian vignette which was dirt cheap.

I'd be tempted to travel overnight, although the roads are empty at most times you'll see very little overnight also you won't be getting tired due to the heat and you'll be able to have a mcdonalds breakfast in Germany, mmmm spicy mc muffin Very Happy

I nearly choked on my coffee when I read that. 350miles fully loaded was enough for me !

Someone recommended this website to me but I'd already booked our accomodation - some great prices, anyone used it ?
