Mr Yaigi told me he had seen a couple of these Lancashire motorcycle awareness campaign billboards around Burscough way, got me intrigued as he mentioned a naked man and a clown so I looked them up:

https://www.lancashire.police.uk/Content/UploadedImages/job_packs/NowDoYouSeeMe_Banner_outift.jpg
Although amusing, I think they may be missing the point; if people aren't looking for a bike shaped thing then they still wouldn't see if you're naked or dressed as a clown. If people aren't looking PROPERLY at junctions, and they still manage to hit people wearing high vis on brightly coloured loud bikes, then it's not about how visible you make yourself is it.... it's about training drivers to look properly, and motorcyclists to assume that they don't, surely?
Anyway, nice of them to try, it might get some people thinking... or at least give them a giggle.
More on the campaign here:

I am a serious believer that this ACTUALLY makes sense, I've been trying to explain it to my girlfriend for years but she just doesn't understand ____________________ Yamaha RXS 100 > Honda CD 250 > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda CBR 600RR > Yamaha RXS 100 > Kawasaki ZX6R J2 > Yamaha FZ1 |

I don't think it matters what you are wearing, the sad fact of the matter is that many cagers are on auto pilot and simply look but don't see.
If these bill boards stand out enough to encourage people to look at them, have it in their heads for 10 minutes, and stay vigilant enough in that time to avoid t boning a poor biker, then they get my thumbs up. ____________________ Sold: 2003 satin black Yamaha R6

After nearly being SMIDSY'd three times in the last few weeks, I've been thinking a bit more on what causes these incidents to happen.
I'm finding it a bit hard to believe the whole 'cagers are trained/used to looking out for cars' shtick. Aren't human brains hardwired to pick out humanoid shapes? I never had problems spotting the motorcyclist/scooter in a throng of cars, due to them being (1) humanoid and (2) irregularly shaped compared to surrounding cars. They stand out like a sore thumb! Cars, on the other hand, all look the same but are large enough so that any movement would be obvious to the eye.
Have standards really slipped that far? Are drivers just ****king lazy? ____________________ Motorsapien Art |

I read a study a while back that believed of smidsy cases many relate to issues with the vison of the cager not identifying an oncoming slim object against a background/expectation of larger objects, which sometimes lead to situations were the bike appears like a static object at first glance when moving in a straight line.
It recommended to reduce this to lightly 'weave' just slightly on approaching a possible smidsy scenario like a side road to break this 'static' vision. I tryed to find the link a few weeks ago for another thread but have had no luck |

That's a brilliant article.
