Not so much a question, more a point of interest, and something I've seen very little of (Read Nothing) on the Internet...

Triumph produce a 70kw version of the Street Triple, that falls within the new A2 license rules. Same price, same bike, minus 9bhp.

3 out of 4 dealers I went to knew nothing about this, so I phone Triumph direct, and as I result I've got one ordered!

Figured this may be of interest to new riders who are required to have the 47bhp restriction.

As I understand it they connect it to laptop/computer etc and simply edit the engine management settings. Takes about 5 seconds. BMW and KTM can also do this with some models. It's not exactly a different product and as such wouldn't appear in a brochure so to speak but I'm amazed that they don't know whats available to them.

A standard triple cannot be ridden on an A2 license because it outputs 105bhp as standard, this one comes from the factory at 94bhp.

The part you are referring to is the further restriction to 47bhp, done via an ECU remap or throttle stop, in the triples case, a throttle stop... the modifications from factory made it A2 restriction compliant, then the further restriction makes the bike legal for someone with an A2 license.

If it's legit to "soft" restrict a bike down to 70kW - which is what they're doing - just in order to further restrict it down to 35kW, then that would apply to pretty much any bike and make a mockery of the 70kW limit.

Of which I fully approve actually. Wink

The 70kW starting point is a ridiculous piece of pedant spackery. What matters is whether the bike is making 35kW now, yes or no. What it might be capable of is neither here nor there. So round of applause for Triumph trolling those Brussels Eurotards. Clapping
