...in, say, outback Canada, Alaska, Sibera, The Serengeti, or some such place...

...and then I take a piss while walking a full circle around my tent, how well protected would I be from predators?

I know a few animals mark their territory with urine, and I know Bear Grylls might recommend it, but where on the pecking order do humans stand?

If an animal smelled my piss, what would it do?

What can I eat to make my piss more alpha?

Makes no difference as far as l,m aware as they would be looking for the scent of another of there kind for marking territory. A predator such as a bear will only be attracted to your camp if there is food there and this applies to most others. So its best to hang all your food up a tree a good distance from camp. I,m currently travelling though Canada and do this when l wild camp along with carrying a canister of bear spray.

not sure it's worth deliberately trying to achieve this for the effect it may have.

I've used for years, two tubs of French mustard, horse dung, red wine, the fluff out of the drier and some semen. Mix it all together and have been putting it on my gate post every day.............. Not one bear has tried to come up my path for years.

Your urine needs to smell of something that preys on what you want to deter.

So for lynx you need to eat lion, to keep away coyotes, you need to smell of bear, and to deter bears you have to feast on... shark.

It will in my experience not do anything to put off large predators at all, it might even attract them closer to check out what has been pissing in their territory.

If you have a fear of getting the Peter Hankin treatment at night, as I do kip in the back of a 4x4.

If a bear wants to get all up in your grill, the zest of your piss is not going to deter it. What about setting up a decoy? Keep the missus' spent jamrags sealed up and hang them from branches far away from your camp to lure them that way. Even if it doesn't work you can laugh heartily knowing some unweary poor bastard hiker might take one to the face, or at least be horrified by the sight of it upon their travels.

Most bear attacks excluding polar bears happen because they feel threaten which is normally because you have surprised them either when they appear in your camp due to being attracted to the smell of food which they can smell from over 1km away.

Or you surprise them by coming across them in dense terrain which has happen to me twice now with black bears including one which was a sow with cubs (very dangerous as the sow will fearlessly protect her young) when l came flying around a bend on a dense wooded trail.

Either way its going to be close quarters which makes bear spray (on average 10 times strong than the cs gas/pepper spray the police use) far more effective than a firearm which will take time to make ready and aim at a bear that will be on you in a matter of seconds.
