Just been reading about this in 100% Biker mag.
It actually sounds pretty good, and the writer says he beat 2 Blades off the line.
96.5bhp,
93.7 foot pounds of torque,
0 - 60 in 3.9 seconds,
220kg weight.
100mile range, plus 12mile reserve,
3 - 8hrs charging time, for 45p
The styling is a odd, but does actually look pretty good. But my guess would be it still needs a bit more work to be true competition for petrol bikes.

Yeah…… that is really interesting styling
The action pics with a rider on it seem to actually make it look a bit better though.
I for one, will not be placing an order! It's almost like they've taken a step backwards - other electric bikes that I've seen (although some may just be concepts) seem to look more like our petrol engines machines, normal and well styled. ____________________ Previous Ride's - '01 Aprilia SR125 (Sold) '08 HONDA CBF600n (Sold) '96 CB500 (Sold) '01 FZS 1000 (Sold) '06 CB1300SA (Sold) '07 CB600F Hornet (Sold) - '93 Suzuki Savage LS400 (Sold) '98 Honda VTR1000 Firestorm (Sold) '05 CB600F Hornet (Sold) '01 FZS1000 Fazer (Sold) 2016 Harley Davidson Street Bob SE (Sold) '02 Kawasaki ZX9R (Sold) '98 CB600F Hornet (Sold) '04 Suzuki Bandit 1200s (Sold) '13 Yamaha FZ1-N |

Looks like they mounted a fat-faced ducati 999 on a buell
100 mile range already lost interest from me, i'd be needing to charge it in the middle of a field every few hours. |

But I'd still have to pass my test, I haven't got £14k and I'd rather folk took the piss because I was going slow on a 125 and not because I was riding a hideous looking electric bike!
There's a company called zero who make em and theirs are quite conventionally styled and with a range of up to 126 miles could work for most of us to commute on.
Still need a full licence and still not cheap tho! |
No, no, no.
First off, you could look at an electric push bike - many ride ones higher than the legal limit with no licence. Otherwise, you are allowed up to 200w, but the standards aren't very well defined.
Then, you could look at making your own.
Again, buying a new electric bike just seems pointless unless your a rich Californian ecomentalist.
With the likely loss in value, you could probably pay someone to fill your average bike up for a few years instead and still be better off!
You are allowed to ride an electric bike on a provisional licence with a CBT. It has to have less than 14.6hp, as per your 125 restrictions.
So, if you want an electric bike, get yourself donor bike, motor, controller, batteries and associated gubbins and you're sorted . Free road tax.
I had looked in to it for a 6 mile journey too. Reckon I could make something with a useful range of 15-20 miles say, with a little left in reserve for a 'limp home' mode for not too much and keep it pretty light.
Charge it up every night. Commuting for pennies and as you're using much cheaper batteries (ideally second hand probably), you don't have the horrendous battery depreciation costs (which can be 5-10x the cost of electricity.) |
