Ok photos but all I see is shiny things.

The background is as important as the foreground, in my opinion.

Thumbs Up

Not to try and sound horrible, but I'm sure anyone could take photos exactly like this any time they wanted, they look like the photos you see on everyone's Facebook of their car or bike, usually taken on a mobile phone.

I can't see any real reason for these pictures to 'stand out'.

no offence taken.

although im not just any kid with a camera iv spent 2 years getting a level three diploma in photography at college and many other media related qualifications, many of my photos are all taken on manual setting with proper kit and then editing in photoshop... the only thing i lack is finding good locations around the area i live Cool

Me too.

And I learned by reading a book for one hour over lunch at work.

I never use photoshop.

And I had a photographer friend tell me my pics were 'National Geographic standard' . Don't even have an SLR Thumbs Up Wink

Iso setting looks like it is too high or you have over sharpened in photoshop, not sure which...

What kit are you using?

-edit-

looking at the one of the guy doing the burnout you have over photoshopped them. The halo you have created around the helmet is shocking.

They're not terrible photos by any means but they're not anything special at the same time, just nice 'snapshots'. The location and the composition doesn't look very considered, and there are completely blown out areas in the Mazda pic. More could be done using photoshop but PLEASE don't get me wrong and think everything can be fixed in photoshop, it can't. Keep going though, as I said - not terrible, just seems like a bit more consideration and a bit more 'ability to see what's wrong' needed Thumbs Up

it is a noise problem, i can only afford a basic SLR meaning the noise is kinda bad, also most of the shots i take are after work when the suns going down so lighting isnt the best to work with, hence the noise

Pics 1 & 2 you have burnt out highlights and lack of detail in the shadows in Pic 1. Pic 3 bike & rider fine but in common with 1 & 2 the background is distracting. Try for a plainer background next time or use a wider aperture to blur it - grass or dense vegetation such as conifers is good or use a low viewpoint and frame them against the sky. You could also try using Gaussian blur in photoshop but selection can be tricky with bikes.
Good luck and don't give up, you just need to refine things a bit.

dont give up the the day job imho.

if i was taking those shot there are only 2 that i would take any form of pride in, fortanatly i tend towards landscape and macro photography.

just out of interest why do you need to photoshop your images - just take the shot correctly in the first place. but seeing as you are doing so much editing i would be looking at using focus stacking to get good depth on the cars/bikes with background out of focus - this would remove attention from the busy background. empty junctions dont really work for bike on padock stands, you can get aways with it with cars but not bikes if you ask me.

it may also be worth looking into HDR to improve shots with large variation in light levels. over exposed area attract the eye, while darker area apear unintresting.

you dont have to listen to any of that as i have little experience with HDR or focus stacking beyound macros, but the techniques are well documented and youe education should have at least given an insight to these ideas
