So, off to St. Petersburg for a couple of days soon and want to bring back some genuine Russian vodka as gifts for mates. After looking at various sites, I'm getting lots of different prices/qualities, so...

1) Anyone been?
2) Recommended brands?
3) Average prices?

Thanks for the help,
Daz

Last time I was there it has about $3 for a half liter bottle (crown cap) from a street kiosk. The price varies according to the politics at the time, under Perestroika it was nigh on impossible to buy.
Drink you vodka with a beer chaser, "Водка без пива деньги на ветер" (Vodka without beer is money to the wind).

I thought Gorbachev got rid of the crown caps on Vodka bottles in one of his reforms? That's got to be a good few years ago.

As I said under Perestroika things were difficult. I have definitely had vodka in crown cap bottles during the last ten years but it may have been in The Ukraine or Belarus rather than Russia itself, Life was so much easier under the CCCP.

I was going to recommend 'Green Marque' Vodka which is very popular in Russia. I have just found out that you can get it in Tesco though, which loses it points on the exotic stakes, but I imagine it is a lot cheaper in Novosibirsk than Streatham...
