I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than me could help me identify what the mechanic has done to my spindle nut?

https://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y439/Timothyallen85/IMAG0186_zps05945da7.jpg

To put things in context, its a '98 CG 125, before they had to remove the rear wheel to change a few parts for me, that was a self locking nut.
Due to the spindle being rusted to fuckery they did have to brutalize it just to remove it.
That part I'm fine with, down to the previous owner riding and putting away wet then leaving to rust to buggery.

Am I correct in thinking they have welded it back on?
If so does anybody know of a good place to order a replacement spindle nut?

Can't see the photo, but I seriously doubt they've welded it.

Ah, can see it now Very Happy I see what you mean. It looks more like chemical metal Shocked Although why they'd do that I don't know, there's lots of other easier, better options. What happens when you poke it with a screwdriver?

They won't have welded it back on.

It just looks like the actual nut has been knackered.

I think that the inside portion of the nut has broken free from the rest of it as you can see it's cracked at one part while further round it just looks like it's misaligned.

Before you do anything buy a brand new nut and then try and remove the old one. Hopefully it's just the nut that's knackered and not the threads on the spindle.

When you're putting the new one on, do a half turn back for every full turn if the threads on the spindle appear to be slightly damaged.

If it's quite knackered though you're probably better getting a new spindle also.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, I'm very much a 'buy a new one' type of person when it comes to bikes, guess I'll try to source a new spindle while I'm at it Very Happy

I'm determined to replace all the rusty parts the previous owner left for me, lazy twats didn't even take off the exhaust to spray that bad silver paint on it...

Sounds like your average mechanics shop with poor workmanship, and disregard for customer safety.

They've slackened the nut, then beaten the end of it to get the spindle out. You should ask them why they didn't use a drift, because there's no reason to fuck a nut like that.

Then they re-used it?

Idiots.
