How to keep cool in 42C?

The husband & I are off to the US of A for a 2 week road trip. (Jammy, I know )
Unfortunately it's 42C out there at the moment. Any ideas how to keep cool or what to wear?

Doesn't look to be 42 degrees currently Looks to be around 28-35 but either way it is hot!

I was in Spain last week and it was hitting high 30s, I did this.

I've had that with the heat. The way I do it is. Stop in some petrol station. Look for an empty water bottle, Usually find one in the bin. In to toilet's fill bottle, come out side and pour water over your self. Get your self wet. Shirt, trousers, so some run's down in to your boot's. Sit out side and wait a while Then ride off. You'll cool off PDQ when you are wet. Or just take your "T" shirt off. Wet it and slip in back on. That will do the trick.

I used to live in Memphis, didnt take me long to go figure the best way to do long rides in 130 degrees of sun (110 in the shade)

Buy some good mesh kit, that pants jacket and gloves.
Buy a gel bandanna and evaporative gel vest

you soak em in water they swell and take up water and feel cold.
Put the vest on over a tshirt under the mesh jacket and put the bandanna on after its swelled with water.

evaporative cooling keeps you cool the air going through the mesh evaporates the water slowly and your temperature stays comfortable

the bandanna cool the blood vessels in the neck that feed you head.

it worked well for me riding long haul down to weezyanna in the dog days of summer.

When you make a stop re-soak the vest and bandanna in any restroom basin, simple.

Also carry water in a wide necked thermos, with ice in it, you can restock your camel back with icy water for your hydration tube that way.
if you dont like camelback as I dont get a bumbag version or fannypack as mericans call em. works well ands its not just comfort its safety.

very good advice above.
I once made a terrible mistake of riding down the autobahn in extremely hot weather with no gloves on,of course due to the air flow i could not feel my hands getting sunburnt ,
never again lesson learnt

Best way I've found to keep cool in extreme temps is a wet towel on the back of the neck. It cools the blood rushing to the brain apparently. I've got a part leather/part mesh jacket that seems to work well, over a certain speed the textile part lets air in which rushes up the sleeves nicely.

Me and my wife rode in high 30's and low 40's temps last year for 2 months. Wore quality, light coloured (predominantly white) textile riding gear with vents. Underneath we wore light coloured sports gear that did a really good job of wicking the sweat away. We obviously got to shade and air con a soon as we could when we got off the bike. White helmets make a massive difference (try sitting a dark one and a white one out in the sun). We rode with light coloured motocross gloves to. Obviously drink a lot!

We had no real issues with the heat while on the bike, a bit uncomfortable in traffic but better than pissing rain.

I'm starting to re-think my choice of leather jacket for France. The day we arrive it's supposed to be 36 degrees, and my Scott jacket isn't vented and doesn't have a removable lining.

I have three days, what shall I buy?

Alternatively I have an old buffalo jacket, it's about 8 years old and pretty knackered, but alot more lightweight and vented than my leather one.

I don't know if he's right, but my brother once told me that above a certain heat, you get something like the "bow wave" effect that you get with boats where the heat builds up rather than dissipating.
