Hey all, Bought a Gilera DNA 50cc just over a week ago and when i drove it home, i thought oh, all Gilera's must have slow acceleration.. well, i just wanted to get it home! Anyway, after another drive on it i literally was scared to come to a roundabout or ANY junction, i knew if i had to stop i basically would be so embarrassed to pull away again..
When it gets going, it's amazing, hits to about 50mph max.
Up hills the bike just bogs right down, and if i go up a hill from a complete stop the bike won't hit over 11mph!
The bike sits at around 1kRPM just higher when first started up, then after a few miles it sits at around 3K but still will only start to move at 5K and then takes ages to go any higher

Long story short, i have put lighter rollers in (5.7g) they did have roughly 7g in when first bought. They have done a bit difference, and don't need to kick on the ground to move the bike, but it's still rather poor accelerating! Maybe i need even lighter rollers?

The belt is fine we believe.
We are going to check the Automatic choke to see if that's stuck on or not. (Will update with results later on)

What we have tried: Lighter rollers (5.7g)
Took of exhaust, and no blockage and that's perfectly fine.
Bought some RACE clutch springs (2000rpm) (red ones) and the bike didn't even want to move with them in! Link to them here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260888678892?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Also changed the Main jet to Size 60. Doesn't really change any effect..

----------

I have just ordered 3.7g rollers and a new 1500RPM (black) sports Cobra clutch spring. Will these help?

-----------------

If anyone has a Gilera DNA 50 (Destricted) and acceleration is pretty good not boggish, what is your setup, and parts you have for it? So i could possibly copy and finally make this bike amazing!

Any help would be appreciated!

I have rebuilt a DNA50. And derestricted it.

Standard airbox and zorst, plate out of intake manifold, 65 jet, standard clutch + rollers

Didn't start rolling till you got to 4k, then was pretty sluggish until about 20 then got quicker from there.

Got to about 50 on a good day.

I would suggest going as close to standard as you can get it and starting again from there. I'm guessing it has some kind of sports exhaust on it too? How about the air filter?

The thing with 2 strokes (to a greater extent than 4 strokes) is that everything needs to be matched up properly for it to run well and be reliable. The end result if done properly will put a grin on your face. This result is unlikely to be achieved by swapping bits in and out on a whim.

Yeah sports exhaust, but one of the owners it's had, has taken the model logo part of the side of the exhaust, so i am not sure what make it is!
I have no idea what the standard parts are for it, i've looked around on google. I'm not to sure what the other owners have done to it, so it's all a guess putting new parts on and such

See i'd prefer it to pull away instantly.. like any bike would.. Mine starts to move at around 5k revs, but doesn't pick up any real speed till it hits around 15-20mph then boom it kicks in and just doesn't want to stop? Any idea's on how to make it pull away fast? I don't mind losing some top speed if that what it takes, Don't need top speed anyway, i live in more town area

Have you ever ridden any other 50cc peds? Restricted or not, none of them pull away instantly. You have a low-intertia engine; the moving parts of the engine only weigh about 1.5kg. Its so low, in fact, that it doesn't even have a counterbalance.

So therefore your clutch won't engage until the engine is already going some. You can change the spring strength, so it engages faster, but then it will most likely start to slip at higher speeds.

So it's a question of what you want really.

Only done my CBT ona 50cc twist & go and because it was my first time on a scooter it seemed fast.. anyway, i've never been on a 50 since, I bought a 125 straight after (Twist & Go) and the accleration was good, but i know it was using more petrol the faster i pull away.. Anyway! i'd much rather A quicker pull away, it's so embaressing pulling away slowly, i don't mind top speed, i hardly hit 40 where i live, it's pointless in the top speed.

I ordered a new clutch spring, 1500RPM and also 3.7g rollers

Thanks, I have tried the bike without the choke, and it doesn't seem to bog down as much, and does rev a lot higher more quickly, and seems to move a bit faster. I am getting a new choke, and hopefully with the other new parts, it should be fine
