I'm not working today and thinking about going out on the bike. The only thing that puts me off the idea is sitting in Friday afternoon traffic. I get my thrills on the bike by riding it fast rather than cruising about and when I get stuck in traffic constantly I get frustrated and annoyed. Evil or Very Mad

When are you put off riding?

I try to ride more often than I use the car - but the sun/rain usually has the final decision!

The Rain in general stops me riding, also when I have no idea where I want to venture out to.

my humble apologies lad. But still, thats even less of an excuse... show them cagers what they are missing.... whoosh.

Its a bikers duty, filter past them as fast as humanely possible. By god was the robbie williams concert fun if you lived in stevenage and owned a bike :p

Ice/Snow are about the only things that stop me going out.
But one annoyance, is strong winds, yesterday there was a bad ass wind in town, like worse than even a "windy" day normally.
To the extent that I didn't filter once, a cruiser rider was filtering one car at a time, very slowly, and very wobbly.
And a sportsbiker came up the middle to one roundabout and was blown right and took someones wing mirror away.

I'm all for going fast, sometimes I think I kick the ass out of it a bit too much (eh, Mr Pants!)? However I filter through traffic very slowly as you can't take it for granted that someone in a car won't do something unexpected/stupid.

No, that's what makes the Great Unwashed get extremely anti-bike, gets the police clamping down on anything bikes ever do and generally gives all bikers a bad name. Sadly people are not always smart enough to realise that just because you ride like a dickhead, the rest of us don't necessarily. Rolling Eyes

well said mr scratchy, i know all to well how filtering on the motorway can go very wrong very quickly, and if someone decides they are cutting across your path, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it at high speed, no matter how good your brakes are, or how ready you think you are

i always felt at my most alert when filtering, but...now my max is about 30, if the motorway is moving faster then that then i just sit tight, nothing can be so important as to make me filter fast it does doesnt compute anymore, and its probly a good thing

Rain tends to put me off.

Also, at the moment I am not ready to ride to work because of traffic jams and filtering. I don't have the confidence to do it, so might wait until the summer holidays when the roads round here are less full of housewives in their 4x4's on the way to drop the kids off at private school and then off for a round of golf.

Traffic around here (south Berks) is a complete nightmare. I have to choose carefully the times I go out for a blast to avoid as much of it as possible. I do commute on the bike into Reading though and it makes the trip much quicker and is easier to park when I get there.
Don't let the traffic intimidate you Karen. As long as you are confident in your own abilities and you ride sensibly you will be fine. Just stay alert and don't take it for granted that other road users will do what they are supposed to. Thumbs Up

Theres not much that stops me riding if I have to go somewhere. ice/snow is about it. If I'm riding for fun then rain/strong wind/lazyness will stop me.

Hi

Not much will totally stop me, although I prefer not to ride in snow or ice.

Bad side winds can get seriously frightening though, especially on the bridge past Bristol on the M5.

All the best

I'm quite lucky. Though my area's close to Croydon I can go in the other direction very easily. There's nice country roads with sweeping corners or the motorway if I want to go somewhere else.

Being drunk. Unfortunately I spend to many weekends in a state in which I am not fit to ride. I don't mean being drunk constantly, but having enough to drink on a Saturday night and knowing that I am not in a fit state to ride on a Sunday.
Having ridden home from RnB in such a state a couple of years ago has put me off ever doing it again. Confused

Not much normally, but I won't ride in the snow and ice, I won't ride if I'm drunk or hungover, or basically the worse the conditions I will only ride if I actually need to get to my planned destination.

I also won't ride at the moment strangly enough Laughing .

I've ridden in all weathers these last few months but the wind seems to be the worse to ride in, especially on my little 125! I am not going to ride in the snow or ice I plan on buying another cage for the harsher winter months.
