I need a tubed rear tyre (18 inch) minimum road legal tread but the softest and stickiest there is. What do BCF recommend?

I've got a sad feeling that the Avon AM22/AM23 might be your best bet. Not 100% sure it's road legal, but don't see any reason it wouldn't be - enough tread etc. It's what the RDs on stock wheels use I believe.

Avon used to be sponsored with coop funeral services, but they worked out they were losing out on the discount which was offered to riders, as so many were using it before the year was out!
Wink

To be fair, I rode a day's racing with these on a TZR I think (I know it was a TZR, think it was the tyres Smile ). However, was taking it a bit easy as someone else was using the bike the next day, so didn't want to push it too much on a bike that wasn't mine and I hadn't ridden before.

The BT39SS has one 18" size listed and isn't made by Avon, so chances of death are considerably lower.

Thanks G, that is the same tyre as my friend Neil has on his RD. Smile

Avon AM 22/23. Not road legal but the best treaded 18" race tyre you can buy. (You can grind off the not for road use bit if its a problem). Don't need much warming and are seriously good in the wet, tyre of choice for hill climbers and the vintage boys.

It will not be going on the road but I want some tread as Clerks of Courses tend to ban slicks in the wet and I am trying to avoid having to build two back wheels.
Is there a supply of part worns out there?

I've had them before from Classic Motorcycle Racing Club meets. They are very expensive new.

Have you considered a TDM?

Can you use a tubless tire with a tube in it? How wide is it? My TDM takes 18" front tyres plenty of sports touring rubber in that size. Thumbs Up

Is this just for sprints/hill climbs?

Do you get to use tyre warmers?

I'd be tempted to try just using wets (or maybe proper race intermediates if you can get them) if the answer is yes and no respectively.

Doubt there's a massive supply of part worns, as they tend to be on bikes that don't shred tyres.

If you've got slicks you like, had you considered cutting your own tread pattern? Often done in supermoto stuff so they tyres moves around a bit more and keeps it warm.

If you go for the AM 22/23 make sure they are 'Club' compound which are the race tyres and not 'Race' which are bizarrely the road tyres!
