Like I said in another thread a few days back, I originally got into biking cos the idea of riding a motorbike scared the sh*t out of me and I wanted to conquer that fear. Now I love it.

So, following on from that, what are other people's biggest fears that they've conquered (or still got, or just plain run away from)?

Not really a fear but I used to hate the feel of raw meats and couldn't bear to touch them Embarassed But I thought, stop being a wuss and get on with it, they still make me cringe sometimes but I just grin and bear it!

I used to be weary of heights, not really a fear but i wasnt keen on them. So i decided to do a parachute jump through work.

Went on a weekend course and did a jump on the Sunday. I was the 3rd person to jump out of the plane,"1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 'Check Canopy'" loved it, glided towards the ground and then realized i was drifting off the drop zone. Got to 100ft so prepared to land, 15ft flared the shoot to slow down... Didn't work, landed hard and broke my leg. GUTTED, 4 months later still not sorted so i want to do it again.

Was great fun though. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I became a terrible claustrophobe years ago - didn't realise until I had a panic attack when I was on a train and it stopped in a tunnel and I just freaked out. From that point on it got worse and worse to the point where I even had a thing about driving under bridges.

When I moved to London, I didn't really have much choice about using the Tube - it took some doing and a few freak outs (notably some station near Euston that has a really low and dark roof) but over time I pretty much got over my 'fear of tunnels' thing. Still don't like them - G and Alex might remember me being a tad unhappy about having to do the Blackwall (?) tunnel about 4 times last year, too deep and small for my liking (near Greenwich, is that the Blackwall Tunnel?) but I can cope with them now.

I'm still pretty claustrophibic about enclosed spaces, actually had a bit of a freak out at about 2.30am in my tent at Cadwell cos of the combination of small tent and restrictive sleeping bag, but in general day to day life it's easier to avoid small enclosed spaces than it is to avoid tunnels and going under bridges, so pretty glad I nailed that one.

I'm ok with the Blackwall Tunnel, use it several times a week, but what about the next tunnel along, the Rotherhithe tunnel? Only a single bore with one lane of traffic going in each direction. Now that really scares me... Sick

I kind of have a fear of heights sometimes, in different situations I freak out, like in shopping centres where the barrier is glass and your upstairs makes me feel sick Confused I think it might come from when I went to an airport as a kid to look at the planes with my dad, and he thought it would be funny to dangle me over the edge of a high building Rolling Eyes Dangling me over the stairs by my legs is one thing, from a high building is just stupid, perhaps he was the inspiration for micheal jackson Thinking Razz

Also get a bit freaked out by driving, still haven't gone further than about 10 miles from my house...

The only thing that I can really think of that bothers me is deep water. Scares the crap out of me the thought of being in there and not knowing what's lurking beneath you where you can't see. Makes it 100 times worse if it's in the dark. Shocked I'm even scared of computer games that involve going into deep water. One in particular was Half-Life at the point where you have to run along this slippy platform and the ledges break away and you've got to jump over holes. If you fall in, then the water was so deep and dark with horrible things swimming around in it. I had to turn it off. Confused

I used to be fairly interested in reading up about deep sea stuff when I was younger. I guess reading about all the creatures of the deep have kind of put me off ever going in there.

Even just sitting staring across a large mass of deep water gives me the creeps although I tend to do it anyway to deliberately freak myself out. I'd like to try going diving one day just to prove there's nothing to be scared of. Smile

And planes. Scares the living sh*t out of me. Had to overcome that when i moved to UK tho hehe.

That and nuclear war, if you think too deeply about that, and know teh various facts about it, thats fucking terrifying Crying or Very sad

Can't think of anything in particular as such, but a month or so ago I dropped my R6 doing a u-turn on a very steep hill, and hadn't done another since then..

But I succesfully done two u-turns Tuesday morning Smile So getting there but mostly now try to do a 3 or so point turn with feet down for fear of dropping it again or losing balance etc....

I can't say that I've ever liked phoning people up, especially when I don't know the person etc, but it would be pretty rubbish of me not to be able to so I just do it. That was more of a minor dislike than a fear though...

I wouldn't say I've ever had an irrational fear of anything though. I think I had a conversation about this with someone on the forum (I think it was Rob?) and He thought I was odd for not having any irrational fears. /me shrugs. Smile

Yes I do.

Take insurance for example, I'd rather take the £200 more online quote than ring them up and get it cheaper.
