i had a mz with the same rotax engine,
best engine ever!! reliable a bike as ive ever had, bing carb on the mz was a bit low tech, but a rebuild of a rotax cam belt motor can be done on the side of the road with basic hand tools,
turn off the bike with the decompression lever, and not the key,
this stops the kick back that stretches the sprag clutch on the starter,

I really like that Thumbs Up

If the pictures are anything to go by then it is indeed an amazingly clean example. Good find Thumbs Up

Have always fancied a SM bike myself, just not got round to it yet - maybe my next bike will be one, although I am enjoying the CB at the moment Wink

This morning I've set tappets, Set timing (it was out by one tooth, Made a massive difference) Will check the compression..

The mileage, I'm still unsure on, 7k odd in this years MOT and last years so its obviously been broken for a year minimum.. So its probably a couple thousand out.. Bike has probably done near 10K rather than 7..

So really the only thing miss-advertised is the fact that its a few K out on the odo, That.. I can live with, and as far as I'm concerned the bike was well worth the price I paid.

Maybe, But its within the guide.

Beginning of next month the engine will be removed to paint it properly, I'll be re-lapping the valves and removing the base gasket (which seems to be a popular mod to increase comp for these)

The rings are fine too.

Hurrah! Razz

12bar/174psi of compression.

https://i.imgur.com/tWhwX6Cl.jpg

Doubt the Clearances made any difference, it'll have been the valve timing due to some twatish PO changing the belt.

I like it! Not sure if they are better or worse than the later DR650 engine ones? I think it's the Suzuki engine that you can get the big bore kit for.

Oh and if your looking for a CCM or Can-am bike, the one you really want has the Rotax 486 engine fitted! It's a total fucking animal of an engine! Laughing

I had two with the same motor, a Jawa and a DCM racer, good solid engines but when they fail it can be spectacular...

Bikes been Stolen from the Garage last night., The insurance wont pay out either..

Gave them all the details but then they rang later and said that for me to be covered for theft I had to have a secondary lock (A chain or a disc lock on the bike), In my defence I mentioned that that was never discussed when I took the policy out but apparently its required as standard and is in the small Print.

Unsure as what to do with the insurance next, I had sent the docs and keys off to them just before they gave me the bad news. Obviously the claim wont go through now, but will it revert back or just cancel the policy? As shit as this insurance company is, Its my best option to stick with them for now as I will be getting a new bike sometime this week.

No chain either Shocked Mate, supermotos are chav magnets. My TTR had no keys, no ignition barrel, just a switch Laughing Fucker was chained, D lock'd, rape alarmed and covered.

Still didn't feel safe leaving it.

Bad news though, you'll find it has either been stripped or just being used as a rag around.

Will do, thanks.

For now, my fathers bike will be chained to the bike ramp (best we can do until pay day).

Come pay day, I'm buying an alarm for the garage and will most likely get a ground anchor.

Whats the chances on getting a stolen bike back thats been put on a new frame Evil or Very Mad

The bike has shown up on gumtree not far from me, looks the exact same as when i had it. Down to the little mods i did on it, even the tyres are the same. But... the "seller" is listing it as a 1999 bike with v5 so its obviosly been reframed, more evidence of this is that the rear foot hangars are not present on it anymore.

I did some digging and actually found the guys fb and got his phone number. I have a made a list of all the things which show it as my bike with photos to prove. I have just got back from thw local plod who are gonna get a detective on it and get back to me in 24 hours.
