Stumbled across your little forum here while looking for porn, err uh, pictures of bikes in Europe!
Probably wondering why a yank is browsing around the BCF well, I was born in Greenock and now live in Seattle. Left when I was about 6, been back a few times but, now with life, it's too expensive to fly back and take time off of work. That's the short of it.
As for the bike, she's a 06' CBR 600rr and we're still in love! Sure she's kicked me off a time or two but we make up
I joined just to get a feel for riding in Scotland / England as to hopefully one day move back (39 years old so who knows). I've been in the States to know a few things, any questions just ask. More than likely I won't post too much but I will be lurking..
thanks for having me

Welcome mate.
Didnt realise it was even a 'non-US' forum generally shows how much attention i have
Our roads generally are much more 'fun' than a lot of yours particularly in built up areas id say. But dont have as much freedom and long varying landscapes with empty highways to cruise on for more relaxing rides
And then theres the weather most of the year...
Im happy to uproot and swap lives to the USA if you wish |

A fair amount of my family are from Greenock. Probably best to only go back if it's to retire, as all the industry there is gone. Quite sad really as I imagine it was once thriving. My gran tells me everyone would go to work on the shipyards and at the sugar traders, they'd come home with bags of the stuff, all a bit of a boon. Totally different now though I imagine. Just another standard forgotten British town.
My uncle has been a biker for as long as he can remember; as it's a fairly small place he probably rode past you at some point in your own childhood |

He lives in Seattle... right on the 42nd parallel, pacific coast, hard against the Rockies... think 'Twin Peaks' intro.... half hour out of town and its like riding through the alps....
Only thing about Seattle... its the ONE bit of the USA where it rains more than bludy SCOTLAND!
Except the last time I was there... then it SNOWED!
Apparently the first time in 30 years they had seen snow on the beach! |
this.
It's hard to find a road that goes in a straight line, one of my favorite rides in the Summertime is what's called the "Cascade Loop." It's about 200 miles (300 kilometers) in a giant circle going over two mountain passes, great ride! Friend and I did it in about an hour and blew through a tank of gas, those days are over though, now I enjoy the ride.
Yes, I know what it's like to see rain for 114 straight days, it sucks but the Spring and Summers make up for it. If we get the smallest amount of snow in Seattle, the city shuts down. Too many hills and we can't put salt on the road due to the Salmon, which are heavily protected. |

Christma's '96 ~ New Years '97
"Why do you never come visit me?" moans my father! "You haven't come to see me for ten years, since we moved. It's AMAZING here! We have, the bay. and we have... well, we have the forrests! And the bay! And Whales! I can watch the whales from my Jaquizzi!"
To which, I had to fight back very hard, the idea that that would be a VERY dangerous thing for him to do, in that peculiarly Green-Peace controlled part of the world! Emergency Sky-Crane into action & they'd be sluicing him down with the forrest fire hoses and slapping the strops round him to lift him back in the sea! "Amazing weather!"
Its opposite Seattle... it RAINS all the time!"
"No! No! Amazing weather, look in a map! Its on the same lattitude as Madrid! It's mediterenian!"
Morning after I arrived I woke up to this!

"I dont know WHERE this came from! aparently they haven't had snow here for thirty years!
Err. yeah! (I fought back quip to suggest it was probably 'global warming!... Kanooks... they get touchy about such stuff!)

There's the snow on the beach... Seattle is supposed to be in the back-ground some-where. This was taken in Victoria, Vancouver island.. hence the Km/h speed limit sign.
Brings the place to a stand-still? I can imagine. It's hardly 'bustling' with activity. Island the size of England... a population smaller than Coventry, and the biggest industry is home-made jam (sorry Jelly!... no lets get it right 'Preserves'!) production!
Seriousely; I've seen more 'life' in Broadway, in the Cotswoulds on a wet Tuesday!.... strange... now I come to think of it.... the affinity for cheque cheese-cloth, rafia matting, chunky knitwear and over-priced 'sculptures' carved from rotten bits of wood..... I wonder if it's a franchise ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
