HI! I'm a bit new around here, but from what I've read you all seem pretty nice Wink

I'm looking to buy a intercom system for me and my friend to talk to each other on different motorcycles. It would be within close range. But the second thing, is that we are also looking into motor-vlogging... mlogging maybe? Wink Is there a way to record the intercom into a camera?

So basic, what intercom, and what camera?

Thanks in advance!

No idea about intergrated audio into camera but probably just easier to overlay an audio recording with the video with some freeware, should be plenty of suitable programs on CNET and similar that shouldn't take too long to get to grips with.

Might take some tweaking to get the audio levels right but i would of thought [if its even available] the cost of getting something that intergrates it would be a fair whack vs a cheaper end recorder that does the job for the video level you're after.

Never done any recording personally so can't advise on anything specifically to go for sorry

And welcome Wink

Thanks, not a bad idea to record on a separate device, but the intercom still needs an output of some sort?

Thanks Wink

There is a really budget way to do it but it may not be suitable due to the battery drain and signal in some areas may suffer a bit.

If you just get a helmet compatible bluetooth kit for a smart phone [presuming you have one], you can simply use the smart phone, ideally with a free-calls app unless you've got unlimited minutes, then 'record the call'.

Does obviously have its drawbacks but may save the need to spend much at all on the audio side of things at least.

Sena smh 5's are very good. Range of a couple hundred metres, more on the motorway. The audio is clear as day even at 70mph.

They connect via Bluetooth and the battery easily lasts me a week (used for an hour and a half daily). The charging cable is micro USB so is the same as my phone, which is useful.

I have used them in heavy rain and they haven't had a problem.

Think I got mine from chainspeed for a decent price.

So with bluetooth you have to call the other person on a phone, correct? Smile Thanks

Nope, they connect to each other independently of the phones. So there is no actual need to connect phones unless you want music etc.

They aren't voice activated, instead you just bop the bigbutton to switch between the modes.

No idea about recording the audio though...

GoPro is OK - very good actually, but it's shape isn't ideal for mounting on a motorcycle helmet.

I have a Drift 720 which has decent battery life, a sort of bullet shape, and the adjustable lens makes it easy to get the best angle - don't notice much increase in sound when attached to a helmet, takes a mic feed for dialogue - I use a Speedlink Spes Clip-On Microphone (less than a tenner).

For decent sound you could look at a Zoom H1, I use that on a camera mount on the bike for ambient/environmental sound, and it can also take a feed for dialogue.

Do you feel your IQ is about 100 to high and that it really should be lowered by said amount?

I presume the motovologging experience does that, otherwise the standard deviations are way out!

Anyway, if you must record audio from a mic - consider recording it with a phone and adding after.

Of course, that goes against the motovlogging principal of putting the most boring footage up with the least editing, lest someone thought they might be trying to be some form of 'entertainment'!
