Any good?

After having the full vfr800 32k service, plus new chain and sprockets, all my savings are gone Smile

I originally wanted PR2's, but can't stretch to them. 1's are currently £80 a rear, how are they? Any good?

What is your budget?

I bought some Pirelli Diablo Stradas for £140 from M&P. Last well and were great for hooning around Spain Thumbs Up

That is indeed, a bargain.

I guess my budget is as little as I can spend, without ending up with Chinese Runlops, or Retzlers.

I don't want to skimp on grip, but I rarely push too hard, that could be to do with the Shitty BT021's I've just removed though. Never had a tyre that took away so much co confidence before. I'm aware that they probably would will grip just fine, but my brain doesn't like them Smile

I've got pilot road 1's on my hornet, they're grippy as fook in all weather, have done about 5k miles on it so far, plenty of tread left, at least another 5k i'd say if not more though they are squaring a bit due to 95% of my riding being dual carriageways

Thanks. Sound good. I can get a set for £165 fitted. Which I think is a good deal. I'll get them put on to orris, along with a chain and an MOT.

Jesus it's been an expensive month. Valve clearance, throttle body sync, brake fluid, chain and tyres. Glad I had been saving a little for the last few years!

I can do the oil and filters etc, but all of his stuff has hit me at once and I don't like messing with the internals or the complicated linked brakes. Still, should be ok for a couple of years now re valves etc.

Shop around. I got Pilot Powers, which probably aren't hard wearing enough for you but are still at the same price point for £150 fitted.

i will only spend a max of £30 per tyre, have got pairs before for around £60 from ebay.

loads on ebay just gotta look for good ones

i will never buy brand new again too expensive

this will only work if your ok with 2nd tyres some people are funny about it and wont touch them

I wouldn't have any issue with fitting Maxxis tyres to my own bike if it came to it, they can generally be found pretty cheap. Worth a look maybe?

I recently had a 32000k service on my bandit. I also had new rear brake pads and the caliper cleaned out plus a rear pilot road 2 fitted. All for a bargain £580. The pain is mutual.

Good tips coming from your experience of part worns.

I have a tyre fitting setup and fit them myself and I've always wanted to go down this route but I've had trouble calculating the point whether a decent saving would be made or not.

so you would say that 4mm is your minimum treat to go for and £30 would be the maximum to pay. Do you go for a certain type of compound or just go for whatever is going and do you mix them?

Thanks Woo.

i go for any bridgestone, michellen, or pirelli and i mix and match tyres as i am not bothered as long as i have decent grip as knee downs dont interest me and i ride very cautious when its wet or cold.

if the tyre is almost brand new or has 5mill or more thread id spend more but usually my cut off is between £30-£40 per tyre

soon im gonna get a tyre changer and balancer and start doing my own wheels

There is not much to it tbh. I don't have a "tyre changer" machine or the likes but use 3 tyre levers. It's really easy to do. Almost everything is cheap to get. I'd recommend the abba bead breaker. I got one for around 40 quid second hand.

The biggest cost is getting a compressor that is powerful enough to seat the bead.

I have PR1s on a ZZR1100. Plenty of grip, last well. I don't throw it around too much, but I've no complaints so far.

UPDATE

Fitted a set of PR1's today. Massive difference.

When I lean, the bike leans with me, it's a revelation!

Within 30 miles I was much happier than the BT021's I had last time, they feel fantastic.

To be fair I could have fitted two choccy biscuits, and they would have handled corners better than the tyres I just removed, they were truly shagged.

Moral of the story is, over time you forget how your bike is supposed to feel, and ANY set of tyres is gonna feel better I guess.
