Hiya guys,

I'm Sam, I live in a van on a farm on a hill in Cornwall (gets very moist) and it's gonna be a wet winter (as per usual in the UK). I bought my 1991 Kawasaki AR125 earlier this year, a spunky little 2-stroke, light as a feather!

However I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable enough to keep her running and up to scratch with the amount of fiddly work that needs doing. I'm going to have to ride through the winter almost every day (my bike is my life-line to society when I live out here).

I was wondering, can someone advise me on a weather-robust, simple machine (to learn and tinker about with) that has almost as much character as my little AR?

Considering doing A2 test to ride a 'restricted' bike (has to be below 94hp standard right?). Any suggestions? Wouldn't mind a cruiser as long as it can still pull it's weight!

Last thing... How do I make images show amongst this text box..?

That's the limit you can restrict, you also need to bear in mind the weight. The bike you can ride can be no more than 47bhp restricted or not.

So what would you recommend? I'm not too fussed about brute power, I'd probably get carried away and bite the dust on a Fazer.

I'm even considering sticking with the AR until it erodes. An owner like myself would depreciate the hell out of it though. I'm just learning some basic maintenance skills.

I wouldn't be too fussed about the 70kW and 0.2kW/kg limits, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone in law and order or insurance who will know about them. A bit of paper saying "Is properly official 35kW and all that" should do it.

I'd definitely get the A2 done and dusted. It'll give you access to far more bikes, and even a 250 (not a cruiser 250 though Exclamation) is a significant step up.

As to what to get, phew, you'll be limited by what gets smuggled across the border from England, or looted from ship wrecks. Maybe see what's out there and get some Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down on it.
