hi - i passed my cbt a couple of weeks ago. Today i picked up a Shoei GT air helmet, alpinestars s-mx 5 boots and dainese gasket gloves. These are summer gloves and boots as I plan to be a fair weather rider. Can't see myself going out in the rain to be honest. However I am aware that I may get caught out by showers etc as I do plan to ride on dry days in winter.

Anyway, I want to buy a pair of all season trousers and a jacket too. I tend to prefer to buy stuff that is not absolutely entry level as I find this kind of stuff normally needs upgrading quite quickly. I want to buy something that I will stay happy with for a while.

What would you recommend?

I find the RST gear is really warm. Have textile trousers and jacket.
Only thing about the jackets is the collars are not very high so either wear a neck warmer or a zip up jumper underneath it... that's what I do.

In all fairness, go around bike retailers they usually have gear, See what you like the most what would benefit you, ask them about it... You will sometimes find they will tell you that its okay for summer but rubbish in the winter or good all year round.

Another vote for RST here too. I've got textiles and leathers from them and happy with both.

I commute all year round in a Weiss jacket and Frank Thomas overtrousers, and a dirt cheap set of builders waterproofs over the top it the weathers really bad.
For sixty five quid a piece (plus twenty quid for the builders stuff) I can't fault them.
