I've always believed that for a child to be legal on a bike they had to be able to rezch the pegs but I saw one of these in the local motorbike shop.

Givi child seat for 5 - 8yo kids

Surely they wouldn't sell these if it wasn't legal for the kids to be on the bike in it.

A while back some firm sold straps for kids so that they had "pegs" to put their film in/on. Bit like the love handle thing too.

I think the reason why they have to reach the pegs are so they are secure.

As far as I know, any passenger is required to have their feet on the pegs.

I don't believe that modifying the bike so that the child can reach the pegs is prohibited though.

Tank bags are better if they play up and you need to administer a loving wallop.

Mind you, my late dad could still get me even when I was sat right behind the driving seat of his car.

After repeated warnings a hand used to snake round and grab my knee joint, it was agony, not sure how he did it, but it made me stop annoying or prodding my little brother on long journeys.

Would not use.

I was thinking that, if it is legal here suprised the health and safety brigade didn't go for the developers throat on that one Laughing Unless you're sat on the unattached material with the straps perhaps so it comes up and away as the kid does Rolling Eyes

Looks comfy though, might consider adapting my rider seat to similar Cool

Looks like there are straps that run behind the kids legs with loops for the feet to go in and attached to the seat.

But as Dumball highlighted, and something I was going to highlight if no one else had, if you low side on the obligatory patch of diesel whilst being smidsy'd normally your kid is going to come off with you and go sliding down the road.......or you leave them physically attached to the motorbike and let them go on their merry way bouncing of kerbs and into cars, what a marvellous idea.

102. If any person in addition to the driver is carried astride a two-wheeled motor cycle on a road (whether a sidecar is attached to it or not) suitable supports or rests for the feet shall be available on the motor cycle for that person.

Road Traffic Act 1988 wrote:

(2) No person in addition to the driver may be carried on a motor bicycle otherwise than sitting astride the motor cycle and on a proper seat securely fixed to the motor cycle behind the driver’s seat.

That's the law as written. The interpretation is up to Their Worships. I'd call OK on that: it's a "proper seat securely fixed", and has "supports or rests for the feet". Nowhere are pegs mentioned.

All the folks here in Beijing would be jelous is they see this.

For a family that has a scooter, the man drives, woman on the back, gran behind the woman, kid of 3 - 10 years standing betweent his dads legs while holding the family dog. No safety seat, fuck that.

Back to good old Lesta in 2 weeks, atlast.

Well I've noticed that whenever you see a rear facing camera man on a motorbike following a cycle race or the Marathon, there is always a police motorcyclist close by as well pretending not to see it.

You'd want to turn it around every so often so that his feet get cooked evenly.

I read the title of the thread and it made me think.
Most of the modern bikes are tiny anyway so kids would be able to ride them anyhow.
look at the Kawasaki 250 ninja thing or a 2012/13 R1 they`re tiny tiny

The legislation doesn't say anything about which direction they need to face only that a child needs a helmet, to be able to hold on and that their feet need to reach the pegs

A friend of mine has been pillion on his dad's bike from the age of 3, he could reach the pegs when sat facing backwards but not forwards

By far the biggest fail in that picture is that he's clearly wearing an adult's helmet.

(cue gross sexual play on words)
