Yamaha SR 125 Problems

hi, i bought a second had 93 Yamaha SR 125 last month and it was fine and then i ran out of petrol completely and didnt know cause there is no petrol gauge, ever since then i have been getting starting problems and the engine just randomly cuts out every now and then. is there anything i can do to sort this problem out. Thanks for the advice in advance.

i cannot get it above 50 either

and also are these tubes supposed to be exposed and only connected at one end?

Better off in the workshop forum probably.

How old is the battery - when did you last charge it.

Get a torch in the opening of the fuel tank and have a peer inside see if you can see anything in the bottom/floating about that might be causing blockages etc.

Think the hoses might be breather hoses [which should be open at one end] but i'm not sure.

i dont know how old the battery is and dont know when it was last charged, im new to bikes and dont know much about then, dont even know where the battery is. how would i charge the battery.

also the bike back fires, is this bad?

Battery is probably under the seat somewhere, don't know the bike in question in much detail - although if its backfiring on top of the other problems it might not be that, but a good place to start if you have a suitable charger handy to rule it out.

Try the workshop forum you should get a bit more help in there

You could always remove the fuel line from the bottom of your tank and flush it out, although I'd recommend you get someone who knows what they are doing to do it. There are some fuel system cleaners and treatment you can stick in your petrol, although I don't know how successful they are.
That seems the best option for you though, considering your lack of experience.

If this is your bike the battery should be in one of the side panels under the seat.

This isn't a battery problem though.
From what you have described. You have a issue with not enough fuel getting into the engine. Which is causing the bike to cut out.
The best thing to do is get someone who knows what they are doing to check the fuel line and carb and if necessary clean them out.

The reason it cannot go above 50 is because its top speed is 55mph.

IIRC the reddex is packaged for cars, so be careful if it advises 'pour this much for a full tank of fuel' as its probably going by a full 50 odd litre tank on a car, so your little bike tank will be like a flood of reddex if you pour that much in Laughing

my granddad used to be a mechanic so i will ride it to his and see if he knows anything about it and ask him about the redex

SR's are slow (even compared to a CG). Those tubes look like the carb overflow, & err... something else =)

Yeah, they're to allow excess fuel out/air in IIRC

I agree with Swampy, sounds like some crap from the tank has got in the carbs and is causing blockages, probably best to let someone who knows a bit strip and clean it out.

get an inline fuel filer too so its less likely to happen again if you run out.

the two pipes look like overflow or breather pipes to me but I'm no expert lol
