As per title, I fancy a 10" Android tablet, budget is around the 200 quid mark.

A proper sized USB slot would be handy, but not essential.

I'd also welcome any suggestions for an external keyboard for use with the tablet.

Thumbs Up

I think the Samsung galaxy tab 2 is in that price range. I have the note 10.1 and I think it's just the iphone 5s compared the to 5, if you get my drift. I'd always buy samsung

I've seen Tab 2 10.1's going for around £229, and they do look tempting - albeit at the very upper end of my price range.

I'm a big Samsung fan, but wonder what the difference is going to be between a similar spec 'no-name' tablet e.g Versus TouchTab 10.1 which are going for £169.

Question

I was tossing the idea about with one of the chinese copies. I'm sure they would work very similarly!

In the end I was sold on the note because it has a pen and handwriting recognition so I can use my spider scrawl and it turns it into real letters.

Looking at this review of that one, this it seems quite good.

Also a quick google shows John Lewis are even selling it. I doubt they'd risk their "name" selling a totally shoddy thing![/url]

My workmate has just received a refund for a Chinese (Onda) tablet PC 3 months after returning it. It didn't charge up, had a few other software niggles and was basically badly built shite. On top of that, any correspondence is in Chingrish and tech-support is basically a user forum. Couldn't recommend a mail order Onda for those reasons, no idea on other Chinese brands but probably shite too. Nonetheless, if you are buying from a UK high street store at least you have a bit of a support network.

Weedy GPUs
Underspecced batteries
Weak wifi antennas with very little range
Poorly optimised firmware
Chinese localisation
Inferior screens
Nasty materials
Poor build quality

Buying a Chinese tablet will get you one or more of the above, which issues you have appear to be a complete roll of the dice but out of all the unbranded tablets we've had through work, I'm yet to see a single one that I would hand over £60 for, let alone £200.

*edit* just to add, a lot of the cheapo tablets have gimped app markets out of the box, not really an issue if you are just going to root and reflash it, but if you just want to turn it on and load it up with games, that can be quite the deal breaker.

As far as the proper tablets go... with the Tab 3 rolling out I'm sure some deals will be had on 10.1 Tab 2s. Failing that, the Sony Tablet S isn't bad and is old enough now that it can be had within budget no problem.
