There's a young bloke round my way who used to ride a Speedfight, not your usual ped-boi moron, quite the opposite actually. Anyway he's obviously passed the seventeen year old goalpost 'cos I saw him out today on some kind of 125 supermoto. Now on the front he had a perfectly legal L plate, but on the back! He's got an L, but its fixed between the mono-shock and the back wheel. So what would plod make of that?

Is it clearly visible and full/proper size? If so then I suspect the Police will do fuck all.

Fairly sure they have to be displayed in their normal size front and back. Depends on the bike i guess, but i know on my speedfight years back i'd of really struggled to get it fitting in that area without cutting it down a bit/angling it to a point it wasn't clearly visible, especially considering a full sized legal rear plate being thrown into the mix.

Would of thought one way or another its not legal.

That being said - i doubt they'll do bugger all about it.

I can barely remember a single person during school/college years who owned a ped that had any legal L-plates, let alone one, or by some miracle two Laughing

L plates are made in a particular size and they have to be displayed at all times ( front and back of the bike) in their original size. Small "improvements" should not cause too much trouble. Before I passed my test I personally cut my front L plate about 1 inch on each side and none of the copper ever bothered.

However, my mate who has an Aerox did get stopped twice and got a way with it ( the first time) The second time he got a fine ( 50 quid if I remember correctly).

I think if the L plates are displayed properly-ish and are easily visible no copper will bother.

Will most likely be £60 and three points (same as not displaying them I think).

They should be like this, but its the same as number plates, don't take the piss and it shouldn't be a problem.

To highlight what i said about my old speedfight
https://probikezone.com/wp-content/uploads/wpclassifieds/2010/11/25/3512-2.jpg
I can't see anyway it could placed it at the rear as OP described [besides plate hung] and still be properly visible, must be chopped n' slung like a leg of beef Shifty

Even if it was hung on a custom-holder to the left of the shock/plate [ridiculous amount of effort Rolling Eyes ] I would of thought it wouldn't be properly visible to any vehicle in a right lane, if not the car behind from a drivers-seat perspective.

I see them mount it by the engine attached to the shock to.

I wish I'd never mentioned the Speedfight, forget it, I'm talking about a 125 supermoto style bike. The L plate easily fits between the mono-shock and the wheel, but when you look at the bike from behind the back wheel effectively hides the L.

My bad Embarassed just re-read the first post, replied late at night Rolling Eyes Sounds illegal though with the wheel obscuring it, they rarely seemed to give a shit in my area though unless you they wanted an excuse to stop gangs of peds buzzing up and down the main streets in town Laughing
