Hi, i passed my a2 test on the 5/09/2012, before the new law changes but my car test on the 22/01/2013. When i got my license back it was a new style one which says that that my entitlements are AM (moped i believe?) and A (a motorcycle of a power exceeding 35kW or with a power to weight ratio exceeding 0.2kW per kg). Does this mean i now follow the new rules until i am 19 and then 24 or do i just complete my 2 years of being restricted to 33bhp? also do what happens when the two years are up? very confused!

Are you sure it says

rather than

If the latter, it sounds like they've screwed up your entitlement. You did keep your old one just in case didn't you, or at least a photocopy of it?

As it stands it looks like you've got the new A2 entitlement, which means you'll have to re-take your test to get unrestricted. Good luck with sorting it. The last time they screwed up across the board many bikers ended up having to retake their tests, even coppers if I remember rightly.

Regarding the above mentioned screw ups that lost people their license privalidges, do they not accept the original pass certificates as proof of it even if you didnt copy your license information before sending it off Confused ?

Just a thought, probably wont work knowing the dvla and their inability to do anything straight forward Rolling Eyes

I think they might have done, it was a fair bit ago, I just remember a news item on it. It was probably only the people who couldn't prove they had licenses who lost out. Saying that, the DVLA aren't exactly known for their common sense and nothing would surprise me.

Yeah that's what i meant, the bit in the brackets was what the gov website says the category A restrictions are but i typed it out wrong. I think i might go and find the paper copy and see what it says on there.

Does not compute. That would be A2, not A. They're now listed as separate categories. What you should have is A, but with a note that it's "<= 25kW" (or however they're recording it now).

I hope you laminated your pass certificate, and I'd suggest that you never, ever send them the original. Go into a DVLA office and let them take a copy if necessary.
