I've been paid out on a car that went up in flames recently so have a bit of cash sat in the bank.

Weighing up various options, one of which is get a nice bike.

Been looking at panigales, but are they really worth £12k+? How would an s1000 compare? Had a new fireblade for a bit which I could probably now get for half what a 1199 would cost.

As I said, these are just things going round my head and it's quite possible I just stick with current bikes and get another alright car.

Guy I ride with has one, it's epic quick, sounds amazing... but the throttle is like an on off switch, it's bumpy as hell and uncomfortable.

Take it on track and it's perfect, on a bump English road? no ta

Too ugly for me.

The brushed aluminium on the R looks cool, but I'd be worried about it flaking off.

Do you have any history of mental illness? I mean, if you've got 12k to throw away without thinking about it, then yes, but otherwise there's so much choice...

Won't tell you I was looking at RC8s earlier then... they're an aquired taste!

Get an RC8. far prettier and interesting to my eye. I also love the face lifted 999. The RC8 has a nice tail, and the bellypan exhaust is lovely. (Did you know that design is about 10 years old now?)

Seems I have an odd taste. I think both will age far better than the 1199. Just IMO though.

Sorry, hard to read when my tongue is stuck to a window, plus the several pints of Guinness I've consumed. Nt quite sure what you want as an answer, as it's a personal taste thing. But if I had 12k to blow on a bike, I'd rather a Guzzi V7 racer, but then that's just me Thumbs Up

If it was my money there would be 2 bikes on the radar.

New fireblade 2012 onwards safer bet, will still be worth good money in a few years time. Plus probably the best superbike for the road.

RSV4 factory pure sex if you ask me

Well it lapped a track faster than the S1000RR, so if such things float your boat, buy one. Certainly all the electronics interest me.

If that was the MCN one, wasn't that the most expensive version, or setup for the track or something?

The Italian has a reasonably revvy power delivery - not far off a rs250, apart from having masses more everywhere, of course.

May make it a bit easier to ride and possibly funner?

But, if you're spending a silly amount of money, surely go all out and get the HP4?

If i had one i'd never stop grinning and riding it just to show it off.
If i had £12k on the other hand I'd buy something else. If it had to be a ducati it'd either be a mint 998 or possibly a Daivel

Every single one I've seen has had mahousive chicken strips. Not a comment about the bike, more the majority of the owners.

Re: the RC8, had a go on one, felt like I was sat on a very fast, vibrating tractor with a cockpit and looks from a stealth fighter. Not my cup of tea, I reckon they might be an acquired taste. Didn't help that I rode it back to back with a Blade which was stupidly easy to ride very, very fast, more civilised and I just clicked with it more.

If I had that sort of money to spunk on a single, new bike I'd want an HP4 because it sounds like an amazing technical achievement. Failing that the RSV4 with all the bells and whistles because they feel tiny, like a 250, and I'd bet they'd be fun.

I'd be going for a BMW s1000rr (HP4 if affordable), or a BMW 1200 GS Adventure.

Depending on your taste...

Out of all the bikes mentioned so far id get the 1199, such a beautiful bike

Haven't ridden it or the BMW etc, but looks wise the Ducati would be my choice over all the others

Unless I really had to have a new toy right now, I'd be waiting and seeing how the new Superduke and likely 848 replacement shape up first Thumbs Up

THe latest Superduke would probably give me more smiles... I'd also try the BMW before committing to anything.

Panigale looks and feels too small for me.
