I do not usually write reviews but feel compelled to write about my experience at Bill Lomas Motorcycles in Clay Cross this morning. I had seen a 09 HRC Fireblade advertised on Bike Trader during the week at their shop and rang up to ensure it was still there as I would be coming over on Saturday morning to view it. This was over a hundred miles round trip so I wanted to be sure. I arrived shortly after 09:30 and went into the shop where the bike was. On first inspection I noticed a fairly large scratch on the exhaust and the crash bung on the same side was missing a sticker, nothing wrong with that but as it was on the same side I wondered if it had been dropped. It also had some deepish scratches at the top of the dash where someone had replaced the original screen. The shop owner walked past and asked if he could help. ‘I’ve come to see this’ I said. ‘Yeah, beauty, isn’t it’ he said. ‘What do you want to know about it’. ‘Everything’ I said. He then went on to explain that it had a rear seat cowl worth £200, racing screen worth £?? etc. , when what I wanted to hear was how many miles, pervious owners etc. I asked if it had a Full service history and got the curt response ‘Course it has!’. I simply asked if it had been dropped and pointed out the scratched exhaust. ‘It better not have been’ was the reply and then he walked off. A bit strange I thought as I was obviously interested in the bike. On further investigation the front mudguard had a crack on it, also on the same side as the exhaust scratch. I went to find the owner to ask further questions and found him sat in his office with a cup of tea. When I asked to give the bike a quick test ride he laughed and said ‘No. We don’t give test rides, no one does’. Well I think you will find yes they do as I have had a few recently. Then when I pointed out the newly found crack, his response was ‘I think you better go as you are trying to pull a fast one’. Slightly taken aback I asked what he meant. He said I’d just come to try and ‘pull a fast one’ and wandered back to his office. Believe me I have better things to do on a Saturday morning than ride 100 miles to wind someone up! I was gobsmacked so explained that I had ridden a long way to genuinely look at a bike, but again he just told me to go. I had only asked a genuine question but felt that the response and attitude I had received was atrocious. I explained this to him and then made my way to the door. He then followed me and said ’Is that yours?’ pointing at my bike outside. ‘Suppose you want me to give you a good price on that don’t you?’ My simple answer was ‘No thank you’ and I set off back home. The whole experience was like nothing I have experienced at all in 15 years of biking. I will never be setting foot in that shop again and suggest that unless you like to be accused of being dishonest then you would be wise to stay clear too.

IB Bill Lomas signs up and tells us you're a clown, shortly followed by a "satisfied customer" signing up to tell us that Bill Lomas are so good they even received a reacharound when they purchased a bike there.

Normal order of service.

Apologies for my cynical side showing here, but have you purposefully joined BCF just for the sole purpose of expressing your dismay at this shop?

I shall sit and wait for the customary...."Well let's see what Bill Lomas has to say"

Then i'm sure someone will come on saying "I'm Mr X from Bill Lomas Motorcycles .........blah blah blah"

I wonder if we'll get the 1st poster saying how great the shop is too?

You are quite right I have only just ‘joined’ to vent my dismay, albeit I have used BCF for many months. I was not aware that it was against the rules and regulations to do so and if I have offended anyone I apologise, apart from Bill Lomas Motorcycles.

No, it's fine, we love these threads. Very Happy

I've invited the dealer invited to respond: I'll get the beers in if someone brings the popcorn.

JontyC in automotive trader dishonesty shocker.

It's a good job you knew that you had the right to walk away from deal like that. Most people would've been crying as they handed over their money for a substandard bike like that because they'd contractually agreed to purchase it by doing the "Is it still for sale" phone call.

This comes up 7th on a google search of the bike shop.

Sounds like piss poor service. Those are questions anyone would ask should they know their stuff.

You can bet your money they are waiting for the "I saw you coming" Customer who will gawp at the suggestion just the rear cowl is £200.

It was probably meant to be, if you had eventually and painfully bought that bike, something would be bound to go wrong, and then they'd really push the boat out and do one over on you Rolling Eyes

If you have used BCF for many months, you would be well aware that threads like this happen on a regular basis.
I don't believe it is against the rules, but they generally go down the same route, which explains my comments.

I think half the time they are generated by companies themselves to promote their businesses.

It's still brewing, should be ready in 3 to 4 weeks.

Actually, if how Jonty describes them is accurate, it's not likely that they'll even bother responding. Sad

There is nothing wrong with anyone signing up and having their first post be a genuine grievance. He does sound like a real ass, you're well off not buying from him.

I hope he does respond.

Sounds pretty shitty to be honest, if the o/p side of story is the whole truth then that is pretty bad.

Thanks for the heads up on this post ,yes I am the person who told this guy where to go !! 40 years in the Trade and I can spot a fool a mile off..besides not telling him to go" as I thought he was pulling a fast one " a phrase I would never use ..most of everything else is complete tosh.. Fortunately I am not an employed salesman ,and can tell a customer like it is.and not be too bothered about being diplomatic Rolling Eyes
.he started his attempt at buying my bike by telling me it had been in an accident because some paint had flaked off the exhaust !!

To my discredit this got my back up straight away ,and any further discussion was not going to be good..so I simply told him to forget about buying the bike, he then asked me for the test ride unbelievable.. The customer is always right, but in this case he is an ass !!

you suspect correctly Laughing

custmers can give you shit which is fair enough, but expect to be treated in the same manner,

I love the motorcycle trade, and I genuinely like customers, lots of whom have turned into genuine friends.. but sometimes if I get asked foolish questions in a silly manner I have no willpower unforunately now to turn the other cheek

it is if you have made stupid comments about the so called crash damage.. then try to ask for a ride..

imagine if you advertised your own bike and someone came calling pulled your bike down and then asked for a ride..get the picture ?

I'd want to test ride it and be told about any damage before I came down.

You sound like a troll cunt

Someone did come and view my bike, said it was a bit worse than they expected, but I wanted a sale and was happy to let him give it a go.

He bought it.

Sounds to me like it's you that's being the ass. Your customer service skills are obviously shit. Genuine buyer for a bike and you get your back up over some normal straight forward questions. (that's presuming OP was telling the truth, which it sounds plausible).

Well your the one who's missed out on a sale so guess the karma balance has been maintained.

No offense but having the "I am mightier tan thou" attitude is really shit when your trying to buy from a dealer. Had it with a few in the past and it alienates people. Your shop, your rules I guess.
