Hi all,

I've got my mod 2 tomorrow at enfield, and as usual I am doing it with very little preparation with an instructor having had one practice session only. My main weaknesses are big roundabouts, and understanding speed limits. Does anyone have any tips related to Enfield regarding the above? I know that there are quite a few roundabouts, and very variable speed limits... Well good luck to me!

Thanks for your help.

I've lived in Enfield for forty seven years and did my mods there two years ago. It's a good venue with no really tricky stretches. There is however one back street with a stop sign, its clearly visible, but there's no obvious reason for it being there.

If you go on the A10, speeds vary from 40, 50 and 70, so keep that in mind. I don't think any of the routes go near enfield town, you're more likely to head up to Waltham Abbey or Chingford and then around Epping, or as I said towards the A10. So whatever route, watch the speed limits, and mind your lane discipline, for gods sake don't veer across lanes if you get it wrong, just carry on and let the examiner deal with the new route.

The only speed limit gotchya I can think of is where Nags Head road becomes Lee Valley road, Nags Head is a thirty, Lee Valley really feels like it should be a forty - IT ISN'T. It's still a thirty.

I did it in Enfield in June. It wasn't too bad - just be confident and I am sure you'll be fine.

You are right that there are A LOT of speed limit changes so make sure you are on the ball for that. Some of them are written on the road. One of the back streets they often take you down is one way (look for all the cars parked facing the same directions) and one has a stop sign.

On the independent ride I think they usually ask you to go to Waltham Abbey or Cheshunt. There is a roundabout with a KFC and if you are going to Cheshunt you should be in lane one and if you are going to Waltham Abbey you should be in lane two. If you end up in the wrong lane don't try and change, just go to the other one - I understand they don't mark you down for going the wrong way.

Also, there is some weird big roundabout thing in Waltham Abbey - might be worth going down there to have a look at it if you get a chance beforehand. If you come off it at the exit signposted for Nazeing then you end up on a very short stretch of NSL.

If you turn left out of the test centre you immediately go into a twenty. If you turn right then you are in a 40 (I think, but double check).

That's all I can really remember - good luck!

Always stick to the last signposted speed until you see another speed sign, you can't go wrong.

A lot of roads are a 20 including the whole estate near the test centre.

If your making good time then they may take you round there.

The reason for the stop sign is for a zebra crossing just near it on the left.

If you notice all cars parked facing forward that's a key that your in the one way. Keep your eye on every sign.

Don't care how busy it is dont bloody filter!!! Not in Enfield

No it isn't. It's there because to the right there used to be a very high brick wall obscuring your view of traffic approaching from your right.

Ok well when I done my test I had in my ear:

"The stop sign is currently not there but please treat as a stop due to the zebra crossing on the left"

That was from the examiner...
