'lo BCF

repo popo disclaimer; did search but not found anything current.

So I pulled out the pads on my project gixxer, they are totally ruined with the friction material contaminated. God knows when they were actually last used.

I was just wondering what the deep scoring marks in the pic might be? Have seen something similar before, but nothing that deep or symmetrical, so if anyone could offer an explanation that would be awesome.

ta Thumbs Up

Almost looks like screwdriver/lever marks, trying to get the pistons pushed back in when the caliper is off.

Yep thats it. No other rational explanation for it.

Jeez, so I guess sliding the pads out and using a nice soft bit of wood was too much hard work eh?

Wouldn't surprise me, this poor thing has suffered quite a lot of bodgery. Both r-clips were missing from the pad pins on the front, and on the rear there is supposed to be two metal plates that go between pistons and pads to stop them twisting, they were missing too. Guess safety wasn't an issue for this dude.

Cheers dears Thumbs Up

Ditto for the screwdriver causing the marks.
Have a good look at the state of the pistons as well!

Anyone ever had the friction material come clean away? My SBS pads lasted less than a thousand miles, and when I took them off (in a car park, in the middle of France, I didn't expect them to wear so fast) the friction material had just fallen off the backing plate.

I'll get pics, might complain.

Only thing is they were trackday compound pads, but I'm not hard on the brakes on the road in the slightest.

I'll post a pic tomorrow.

It's a bugger when your break pads brake. Smile
