Apologies if this has been discussed many many times before.

I've literally only just done my CBT and intend to start commuting to work, the route is about 25 miles each way and covers rural B roads then joins the A40 just as it comes off the M40.

If it were just a city/town commute i would make do with any 125, but the A40 is making me re-think it since it is still to motorway standard (3 lanes, national speed limit) where i join it, so cars are still doing 80-90mph.

Originally i thought the CBF125 would offer me a bit more wind protection over the CG, but reviews said the tyres are not so good , and won't corner that well on the rural B roads. I've ridden the CG and YBR before, and the latter's build quality didn't seem to hold up as well, plus I don't think it can manage the mpg of the CG.

The other thing sowing seeds of doubt in my mind is that whenever i ring a seller for a CG, they've sold it and promptly try to offload YBRs and CBFs.

InB4 Varadero.

Varadero though. Smells like a steak and seats thirty-five, Varadero.

yeah the varadero does seem to tick all of my boxes, but one snag: i'm only 5ft7 (30"leg) and weigh 10 stone so not likely to get both feet on the ground, and with so little experience i don't think i'd be comfortable with that.

CG or YBR for the cheap pick up or Vara if you've got the coin for a decent one.

30" might be do-able, I wouldn't write it off until you've tried it.

The CBF will do 75mph and 130mpg. If you keep on top of maintenance and find one that's had the fuel pump replaced, should be a winner.

It would also end up eating itself.

My vote is vara also, they just don't brake, hits 80 on a straight even with 2 people loaded on, eventually.

not in my 8000 miles experience, or either of the 2 of my mates who have had thems experience either.

continental tyres ( strandard fit after ~ 11 reg) are your friend. TVS tyres are really really not. having a rev counter, and slightly stronger engine internals is a bonus too (also post ~11)

That would be a good reason not to get one.

No need to put both feet down, I don't anyway. I'm 32 leg trouser wise, it is perfect for me. Nemo is small and has used it, he rode it fine. Thumbs Up

Mine is on galactic mileage for a 125 and just goes and goes, doesn't break Wink

Cheers for your help, Vara is definitely the best, but the used price tag puts it beyond my reach (also, i reckon i'm most likely to drop it, so that would wipe away its resale value). Going to try and bag a CBF.

Thanks for the info lukamon, i'll check the tyres.

The cheap tyres are adequate if you ride sensibly - as for those top speeds I wouldn't worry too much. if you can average 55 on most of the B roads then you'll be fine, and just sit at 65 on the dual carriageway will be a lot easier on you and the bike. Ride to the bike's limitations rather than trying to keep up with everyone else.
