The inspiration behind the madness... well I am an advanced rider and a member of the Boundary500 Motorcycle Group (www.boundary500.co.uk), which is a big supporter of the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA). We do lots of sponsored ride outs to help keep the service flying, and do the fantastic work that they do.

Now on the 28 and 29th of September 2013 I will be riding 29 year old Hilda Honda moped from coast to coast, and back dressed in a loud 80s Scouser shell suit, stick on tash, and biggles helmet. All in aid to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance.

Now that’s the quick brief, for a fuller and more informative giggle complete with pictures of this lunacy check out my link.

Please support and sponsor this muppet on a moped, to help support the Great North Air Ambulance to help save lives. Thank You.

I didn't get a 'giggle'.

I got bored.

I want my giggle.

Now!

A lot of people manage that sort of distance cycling in a day; why do you consider doing it on a motorised vehicle worthy of our money to your chosen cause?

If it was something like a proper minimoto (20kg, 20" high - none of this new chinese stuff or pit bikes), I might be a little impressed.
Plenty of people in other parts of the world regular do those distances on much worse roads on bikes no doubt in worse repair.

Still not even a snigger.

At only 2.7 bhp, and her max load capacity exceeded... that adds to the challenge.

It's probably best not to advertise that you'll be breaking the law on your very slow vehicle when you list the time and place you'll be doing it.

I'm still not really seeing a 'challenge' though.

You're going to ride a fairly slow bike for a fairly short distance.

There's people in other countries that no doubt do the same with an overloaded bike on much worse roads just to go and see their mate in a different town.

It does sound a little boring, I admit. That doesn't really make it a 'challenge' though Confused.
Plenty of people do boring things all the time without asking other to open their wallet for it!

Saving lives is overrated; the planet is overpopulated, our little island is crowded.

At the end of the day, this is about raising money for a life saving service that invariable bikers use more often than not.
The concept behind the event is not important, helping save lives is.

Why don't you just have a walk to the park then?
You could donate the money you'd be spending on the trip and the bike to the cause too Thumbs Up.
If you wanted to save lives, sounds like a much better way to do it!

Fair play to you and a bloody good cause; as bikers we never know when this might be needed. Best of luck to you with this and hope the weather is good.

What about the people that would happily help people, but wouldn't lift a finger to encourage people to ask for money because they're going for a ride?
Presumably he should ignore those, but listen to the people telling him how amazing he is Wink.

I frigging cycled coast to coast while at uni. Do it on a penny farthing and maybe I'll be interested. Short distances on powered transport ain't nothing to boast about.

A bit off topic here but tbh I'm getting pretty sick of all these 'do fun stuff to raise money' schemes. The way I see it, having fun while those you intend to help are suffering just distances you further from those you are trying to help. But putting yourself in their shoes will likely make you realise what complete shit their lives are like, and get you actually working to make a difference, based simply off the thought that 'holy crap, that was fucking awful, I'm gonna do everything I can to make sure they don't live like that anymore'.

I admire the reasoning behind it but honestly... sitting down doing very little, going very slowly and not really going that far isn't worth donating to. Just feels like I'd be donating to somebody else's little jolly on an old scoot dressed like a bit of a twat.

Ride it on fire fucking a nun while sticking nails up your arse, I'll consider it.

SO 60 BIKERS do a ride of respect for a mate and each burn up £30 of petrol in the process? and spend another £10 on drinks food etc for the day
£1800 that could have been used by his family .....????? but they all went out and had a good ride instead ? same logic ,,,,?

He's doing 'something'. If he raises £1, he's achieved 100% more than you have by complaining.

I don't see the logic in being cruel, can someone explain that to me please?
