Hi, newbie here.

I've just acquired a KE100 for my daughter to use off road, to learn to control a motorbike. It has no paperwork with it, so I have no clue to its history.

At some stage it has had the original engine replaced with one from a KH100 (I'm assuming, since the engine number is KH100DEO21490).

It was given to me as 'not running', and in need of a carb float, though it was going a month ago, and I did get it to run (briefly) when I got it home. In the process of being previously tinkered with to try and cure whatever was ailing it, the carb seems to have been butchered about, and I'm inclined to get a replacement one - hence I need to find out the year of the engine.

I've ordered a Haynes manual for it, which covers the KE and KH series over a long period, so I'm assuming they are mechanically similar. I don't know how crucial it is to get the specific model/ year right for parts for these engines.

So can anyone help point me in the direction of how to track down the engine year, please?

Many thanks,

Shippy

Thanks Vincent - I'm working on getting my camera back off daughter to take some decent pics. Hopefully she'll be home tomorrow, so I'll do it then.

I don't think you can see much from these ones.....

Looking at this, I think you can at least say its pre 84

Thanks - yep, it does. That would seem to narrow it down.

Just an idea, but I'm wondering if the KE could possibly have been fitted with this KH engine from the off? I think it may have been originally sold as an off road bike, without lights/ indicators etc, so I'm wondering if the KH engine might have been more suitable for that??? (purely guessing here). The paint - including engine casing - looks like factory quality paintwork, not a respray, and I've come across a 1981 KE125 with a very similar - (mostly green) frame/ body paint scheme.

Hi
According to my Haynes manual, it is a 1983 KH100 G3 engine.
If you have the frame number i could tell you the year of that too.
For the frame to be 1983 aswell, the numbers need to be between KE100B-004001 and KE100B-07100.
hope this helps

Excellent! Thank you. The frame # is KE 100B-020965. So yes, that would make it 1983, as well. Anyone got any suggestions where it might be worth trying to source a new carb, or carb refurb kit for it?

I got it going again briefly, and took it for a quick spin around the meadow. The forks made a sort of 'clonking' thump when they came up as I set off, and the spark regulator has a broken terminal. Lots to sort out on it. But it was fun just to get it moving Very Happy

These are the pictures I took earlier.

No, you're right, it isn't - adding it direct, the old fashioned way Laughing

I'm guessing the 2 stroke paraphenalia has been stripped off (or was never attached), for off the road use. We used to do that and just use premix, given the amount of punishment off-roaders take.

Mixed it 20:1 - can anyone with a Haynes (mine not arrived yet still) advise me if this should be about right please? I thought it seemed a safe-ish mix
