Having a bit of a nightmare with my Yammy YBR 125 and could really do with some advice.

Other that last couple of weeks I've noticed a few things odd about the bike:

• Rev meter jumping about all the time.
• Starter motor failing to engage so have to kick start the bike.
• Headlights dim on idle but brighten up if you rev the engine.

After doing some research myself seems like the battery is knackered so I took it out and tested it, read 10V. So I charged it last night. I bought one of these to charge it, think I may have got the wrong thing to be honest:

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_895219_langId_-1_categoryId_255205

The battery was up to about 13.5V after a few hours of charging. Unplugged it and in the morning the battery had fallen to 12V. Put it back in the bike and it was pretty much as bad as before.

Going to get a new battery, one of these:

The question is, will I need to charge it before fitting and if so will the crappy charger I got yesterday be up to it or will it damage the new battery and piss my money up the wall?!

The charger you bought will trickle-charge a car battery just fine but on your bike battery, expect it to charge over the course of a day or maybe 36hrs, but not in two hours.
If your lights brighten when you rev the bike it could be a sign of a voltage regulator/rectifier fault also.

If you can check the voltage of the battery whilst the bike is running (perhaps around 5,000RPM), that would be useful to know.

Thanks for that tip about charge times, I have a Kymco Pulsar that I don't always use and sometimes the battery is low. I only have a simple low capacity trickle charger but I'm afraid to leave it on too long in case it overcharges. So from completely flat, it takes 24h+ to recharge?
