Hey Folks

New member here, Just turned to the light side of biking a few months ago after being a 4 wheeled man for several years.

So Im looking for a new bike to go on a tour of the Scottish highlands in with a friend. My friend has been a longtime rider and has strongly recommended i get a yamaha DT125 (He is on a yamaha tenere 660). Since it has a solid 2 banger that is renowned for being pretty bulletproof. However after visiting several dealers around where I live and checking a few websites I am struggling to find one far under £2k. And my budget im hoping isnt going to go over ~£1k.

Wondering if anyone has any recomendations for quick dual sports which are less known (Deprieciate quicker Twisted Evil ) than the DT. I know ill never keep up with his Tenere but I just want something that can handle some dirt and still cruise B-roads at ~65-70mph (something that the cb125 im borrowing isn't able to do)

Also it would be sweet to have something which i can de-restrict (After i pass my test ofcourse Wink ) to get some more horses.

Thanks
Caelite

EDIT: Was actually looking at the Pulse Adrenaline earlier. Was watching some youtube vids of it earler and a guy on there swears by it (although his claim of a solid 75mph out of a 11bhp engine a bit off. Anyone have any experience with these. There £1400 new for a not terrible looking bike.

You can have fun on any bike, and any 125 (cruisers perhaps excepted) would do.

But the DT has an 11 litre tank and put that together with 2-stroke economy thrashing it to its claimed 65mph limit while trying to keep up with a bigger bike, and your tour may be picking a route from one petrol station to the next across the highlands.

Pulse is a Lexmoto brand which means that you may get a worthwhile warranty, and something to sell on, but it will depreciate.

The Adrenaline looks to be listed at £1500 at the moment, and add another £71 for registration and VED.

If you can afford that, then I've got a song for you:

♫ ♩ Well, it goes real slow[*] with the hammer down,
It's the country-fried bike endorsed by a clown[**]! ♬ ♪

[*] Actually quite quick.

Varadero would be awesome... but from a peak on autotrader all i can see is £1700 bikes with 20k+ miles on the clock. I understand there quality bikes but there a bit rich for my blood im afraid.

As i said my budget is around a grand and I was only looking at the pulses at £1400 hoping i could snag a 2nd hander newish with low milage (from what ive read the original 2008 ones had issues though).

Albeit i reckon i may be being a little optimistic. People seem to be selling there old clunkers from the 90s for a grand and a half nowadays. The CB im using im borrowing from my cous so it seems like i might be stuck in the 4 wheeled support vehicle for any decent trips until i can get a little more cash in my coffers.

Hell mayby ill take a trip over to some ex commie country and snag me an old minsk for a few hundred quid Cool .

Edit. On a more serious note im probably gonna just start looking at a YBR / CBF sort of thing, I wouldve loved a decent bike for in the dirt but the money is outrageous. A little Commuter will probably do me for a couple of years till i can do my DAS then get on something way too big and which i can then proceed to smash into a wall at 200mph.

Thanks for the suggestions though gents if anyone knows of anything decent for cheap drop a line but i think i set my sites to high.

If you're any good with a set of spanners you could have this:

https://i.ebayimg.com/t/1996-YAMAHA-TDR-125-2-STROKE-LOW-MILES-RARE-UK-BIKE-TZR-ERA-/00/s/OTAxWDE2MDA=/z/wG0AAOxymspSDPZQ/$T2eC16VHJHYFFkZ5VomnBSDPZPoeH!~~60_57.JPG

Roadworthy within budget. Pretty similar to a DT, possibly better for the what you want it for.

ebay link Advertised at just shy of £800 but I reckon an offer at £700/£750 would get it.

I can't believe id never heard of that kind of bike because it is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again mate.

Also as for that trip I've been voluntold to carry there pannier luggage in my 1000cc 53bhp blazing Nissan micra. Ya never know i might take it green laneing with them and it will finally die. Very Happy

Hey man, I'm actually on a DT and have been for the last year. I picked mine up for just over a grand and it had only 8k on the clock with superficial damage to some of the plastic. It's a lovely bike and it's really done me well as an introductory bike. It happily does 70 on the flat and it's pretty good for town driving.

Then there's the fuel tank. Standard riding I get about 94 miles tops out of a tank and I don't ride like a nutter. If I'm doing a lot of riding on A roads of a bit of motorway riding then that drops down to about 80-85 miles. It truly does become a petrol station hop if you want long distances.

Plus side, it's pretty cheap to refill. I never spend me than £10 on a full tank and my two stroke tank tends to last me about 5-7 petrol tanks. Definitely recommend it if you can find one for a decent price. You never know, if I manage to get myself a medium sized bike this year I might even put mine of for sale.
