It's a heavy metal festival in Germany. My mates are flying over but I reckon it'll be a laugh to ride there. Checking to see if anyone else is going and had a similar idea of riding there. Starts 5th August.

Now that's an interesting idea. I want to go. Bal-Sagoth are playing! (possibly my favourite band) Not to mention Children of Bodom, Satyricon and Darkthrone! Would it be a good idea to ride there do you think? Would take a fair amount of preperation and a flight would probably be cheaper. But if you work something out then I could be interested.

Well yes flying would be cheaper but thats not the point. Not that much cheaper mind, cos you've got to get trains, buses etc. Also you dont have the coolness of riding your bike in to a heavy metal festival rather than trudging in after a big walk with a tent on your back.

The idea was either to ride to Harwich then ferry to Kiel which isn't far at all from Wacken or a ferry to France then ride all the way there.

Ok it's all a little bit vague still but I will research more now I know people are interested. I was just going to ride to a port and try and get a ferry there but if a group maybe more planning needed.

Also the tickets themselves are dead cheap for what it is. A three day ticket is £45 which is pretty damn good.

Ok there are LOADS of ways to get there some short, some long. How far do people want to travel? Like it could vary from 1000km to 300km. Depends how much of a mission people want it to be.

I'm not too fussed. Bear in mind I've got to travel the length of britain to get to where you are first though. Confused I think I'll need to take a nights rest once I'm down there. So I'll probably have to start heading down your way the day before.

I wouldn't mind riding from France. Would be quite fun. Smile I'm always complaining I don't travel enough.

Just make sure you get your bike serviced and have breakdown cover before you leave. Breaking down out there would be a disaster.

What bike have you got out of interest? I'm not going to get left mines behind I hope...

Haha no I don't think you would get left behind, more the other way round. The NSR is hopefully a write off (coming to check it today) so a Honda Bros is on the cards. I reckon it could do the job pretty well.

Yeah I reckon the France route is best. Easier to sort out to suprisingly.

Ah right, just with a name like duke red I thought you'd have at least a nice big shiny Ducati 748 in red. I can't see an NSR making it all the way there very easily. Confused Good luck with getting a bros though. My mate has the 650 version and I recently had a go. Will be good for long distances I reckon. Anyway, I'll get you on MSN later tonight after work and discuss that.

Back on topic....

Does anyone know the distance from central scotland to the south of england? I'll need to work out petrol costs etc. I'd much prefer to take the France route. Have you ever used the roads abroad? Might be a bit odd on the right hand side of the road.

I can see all my mates wanting to come too, but they'll more than likely be flying over like your mates.

Just wondering if anyone around is actually going to this. Decided not to bother with the bike and I've booked a flight with my mates instead. Should be pretty good. I'll bring back plenty of amusing pics for you all.

I really really liked the idea but it just doesn't make sense if you can fly, just easier, cheaper, safer etc etc
