The fuck is wrong with it?! Even when I test it and really whack it up to make sure it's not a weak shift, it still, most of the time, manages to drop into neutral. It's really taking the piss and I can't ride properly because of it.

How is your chain looking? Slack? Too tight? What about your cush drive, can you move your sprocket back and forth easily?

Probably bent or worn selectors.
Did it start suddenly or gradually do it more and more.
