Hi, I've got a rs125 tuono but having a problem. When it warms up its making a whining noise for the first 6k revs but maybe the exhaust noise takes over it after. It sounds just like this. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Sounds like a bad bearing to me, Had the engine been rebuilt recently before you bought it?

Have you checked the transmission oil level?

Hi

A whine with rpm on a 2 stroke is most often a sign of main bearings failing.

All the best

Thanks guys. I took it into a bike shop yesterday and they said it could be the same. Also said that some of the rs125 used to get a bit whiney so to keep an eye on it. Seen a complete engine on eBay so might buy that rebuild the bottom end then a polini 160 port it and match the crank case and drop it in.

(Then look in my wallet to find I have a wife and things such as these are just a dream)

A set of main bearings and gasket set will only set you back £30 or so,, a litre of transmission oil and a bottle of antifreeze will be about £10-15.

It will only take about Half a day if you are not familiar with the engine and job done.

If you are rebuilding the bottom end rebuild the top whilst it is in bits.
